ARCHIVED Rrrrrggg....this Is So Darn Hard Sometimes :(
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I hope he doesn't get glutened either. I'll pack his krispy treat separately - thanks for pointing that out. I think the director has some idea of how hard this is. She's a mom and has a good heart. When I sat down with her and the assistant director and explained that what we're facing with him is lifelong and could ultimately end his life if the... -
Dr. Alwyn Koil (NM Pediatrics) & Dr. Thomas Rothfeld (Presbyterian) both of Albuquerque, NM both general pediatricians and WONDERFUL doctors - very nice. Dr. Koil not totally sold on Enterolab because he's not familiar with them, but is very supportive and interested. Dr. Jay Jacobi (SW Medical) General practitioner - also of Albuquerque I haven...

ARCHIVED Rrrrrggg....this Is So Darn Hard Sometimes :(
Mamato2boys posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As you may or may not know, my son is 3 and in daycare (both DH and I work full time). Tomorrow is of course, a very big food day for all of us, and the daycare is having a party. One of the workers asked me today if I was going to bring in treats for Ryan to have, or if I was going to keep him home. I was the first person to sign up for the party, and listed... -
ARCHIVED Rice Krispy Treats Recipe ?
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I wonder how they'd taste if I took gluten-free rice cereal, added some shredded coconut, and then topped the mixture with Enjoy Life chocolate chips ? Kind of a mixture between the coconut suggestion and the "Scotcheroo" suggestion. Thoughts ? I'm not used to experimenting with recipes, so I'm a tad gun-shy - especially when I'm making stuff for other people... -
What an ass !! I work for UNM and it looks like he was probably a resident. There's no Klein listed as an attending - not that that's an excuse for him treating you badly. God it probably took you forever to get the appointment too - and then to be treated like that....that's just pathetic. I hope you have a supportive PCP. DH and I go see Dr. Jacobi...

ARCHIVED Caramel Color ?
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh look - I found this right on this site: 3) The problem with caramel color is it may or may not contain gluten depending on how it is manufactured. In the USA caramel color must conform with the FDA standard of identity from 21CFR CH.1. This statute says: "the color additive caramel is the dark-brown liquid or solid material resulting from the carefully... -

ARCHIVED Rice Krispy Treats Recipe ?
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No worries. gluten-free/DF is a pretty tall order - even I forget sometimes. -
Good ! Please do. Our pediatrician is Dr. Koil (NM Pediatrics/After Hours Pediatrics) - we just love him to death. Also, I'd be curious to find out which doc you had the problem with at UNM, if you don't mind.
-
Who was that, if you don't mind my asking ?? I can tell you that my symptom is chronic constipation (which is less common, but not unheard of), and I know that if I eat glutens I feel TERRIBLE - and I've only been gluten-free for a couple weeks.

I don't have an answer for you, but I just wanted to bump this up to the top so hopefully someone with an answer WILL see it. -
ARCHIVED Rice Krispy Treats Recipe ?
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for all the tips !! I appreciate it. My son's daycare is having a Halloween party, and as a side note, I get a lot of "oh poor baby" from the staff when they ask about his dietary restrictions. One staff member even commented that some Mary's Gone Crackers I put in his lunchbox "looked like birdseed", so naturally my son won't touch them now. ... -

Sorry, I know this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find the post. I'm looking for a gluten-free, dairy-free rice krispy treats recipe...even chocolate ones would be yummy. TIA ! -
ARCHIVED Shared Enterolab Results With Ped
Mamato2boys replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have no idea, but it absolutely frustrates the hell out of me that she WOULD NOT even CONSIDER the possibility. I explained to her that EnteroLab had ZERO to gain by telling me the results were positive vs. negative. She still wouldn't hear it. -
ARCHIVED Caramel Color ?
Mamato2boys posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My husband posed an interesting question that I didn't know the answer to, but was hoping somebody here would ! Isn't caramel color supposed to be avoided as it could possibly have glutens/dairy in it? He mentioned that oftentimes soda contains caramel color and was wondering if he should avoid it. I don't drink soda myself except on an extremely rare... -
Hi there ! My son saw Lucy McLoughlin at UNM, but I didn't find her particularly helpful. Dr. Fahl (also at UNM) is really nice, maybe you could give him a shot ? My only caveat is it'll probably take a couple months for your kiddos to be seen.
-
Yep, I would get that quite often too. Though I haven't had a period in quite some time, so I'm not sure yet how going gluten-free is going to affect that, if at all. (I had a baby 3 months ago and am breastfeeding. )

ARCHIVED Tmi Question - But I've Gotta Ask !
Mamato2boys replied to Mamato2boys's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, it definitely feels different than being glutened, as I discovered this weekend. Looks like I've most likely set myself up for another one of these sessions in the future. -
ARCHIVED My Son Has Dairy And Sugar Issues. Is He Celiac Too?
Mamato2boys replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh boy do I know what you're talking about ! I was starting to feel like a real nutcase whenever I spoke to his pediatrician or his GI. Even my husband was silently wondering to himself if I was being over zealous. My oldest son (now 3) also has issues with dairy and sugar. Both give him terrible diarrhea. He used to be pretty severely allergic to dairy... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Asymtopatic?
Mamato2boys replied to Artorius75's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
At first I thought I was asymptomatic too. My son was diagnosed as being gluten sensitive, and through that DH and I learned we each carry at least 1 gene, so we decided to do the diet too. Plus it's easier if the whole family is eating one way. Anyway, I didn't think I had symptoms of gluten sensitivity at all. I'm overweight, didn't have chronic diarrhea... -
ARCHIVED L-glutamine/stomach Pain & Gylcemic Index
Mamato2boys replied to Budew's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Personally, I wouldn't continue taking anything that caused me stomach pain. I would consider that a sign that the supplement doesn't agree with my body for whatever reason. If you're looking for good blood sugar control, protein is the way to go. I'm hypoglycemic myself and have been dealing with it for about 20 years now. I've found that eating protein... -

He died a few years ago. He had alzheimer's. I'm not sure if that ultimately killed him, or if it was a stroke. He was in his late 70's though. -
ARCHIVED Tmi Question - But I've Gotta Ask !
Mamato2boys posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm pretty new to this still - I've been going gluten-free for about two weeks now. My gluten sensitive GI symptoms are weight gain, bloating, chronic constipation, and water retention. I'm feeling quite a bit better - hypoglycemia seems to be resolving, and I don't feel nearly as bloated and feel like my overall fluid retention is diminishing. I've noticed...
