  1. Maybe it's just me, but it sure seems like there are a LOT of us here! It's certainly not an unusual name, but I haven't met THAT many others...so how many of us are there on this board? Coincidence??? Hmmm.......
  2. Oops...some of you may have noticed that there's no egg in the pineapple fried rice recipe. I eliminated it (again due to personal intolerance). One beaten egg can be added and scrambled in the wok just prior to adding the rice if desired.
  3. Thanks so much for all your replies...I knew I could count on everyone for some good advice I haven't checked out the article on canola oil, but am very interested as I am also soy intolerant. For now, I'll stick with safflower oil. As for the recipe, let's just say that it doesn't exactly exist yet I'm trying to reproduce a favorite dish from...
  4. Just bought myself a new carbon steel wok in an effort to broaden my gluten-free cooking skills, but I'm not quite sure what to do about seasoning it. Everything I've read suggests using peanut or corn oil, but I hate to contaminate the wok with oils that are so allergenic (I have a friend with peanut allergy, and I'm still not sure if corn is an issue for...
  5. Evie- Thanks so much for sharing! Being newly dx'd after watching four generations of my family suffer, your words give me hope for ALL of us. And nini, consider your mission a success! My weight nearly kept me (and the doctors) from figuring this thing out. But thanks to people like you who have shared so much of your experience, I didn't fall through...
  6. Being fairly new the gluten-free (and CF, SF, EF) diet, I miss LOTS...especially since I haven't had enough time to find new things yet. But what's most surprising is that I'm not really *craving* those things...how is that possible??? Every diet I've ever been on has required loads of will power. Now I'm on the most restrictive diet EVER, for the rest...
  7. Let me take a shot at simplifying the gene info... HLA - DQB1 allele 1 (0201) - This is HLA DQ 2, subtype 2 or more simply just "DQ2" which is a celiac gene. HLA- DQB1 allele 2 (0303) - This is HLA DQ 3, subtype 9 or more simply just "DQ9" which is a gluten sensitive gene. Hope that helps!
  8. The positive labs were enough for me, but I have a family history of colon, stomach, and intestinal cancer (coincidence...I think not). Anyway, because of the family history and years of chronic illness, I went ahead with the endoscopy/colonoscopy for my own peace of mind. In the meantime, I'm having my 4 year old tested with Enterolab and will NOT allow...
  9. DQ1 subtype 6 is a gluten sensitive gene, but the DQ3 subtype 8 (also refered to as DQ8) is a celiac gene. My test results also showed one celiac and one gluten sensitve gene...I was simultaneously in denial but also relieved to have answers. Just sent my son's test kit to Enterolab today, but he's not quite 5 so hopefully he'll be receptive to any...
  10. Congratulations on the birth of your baby! Because I wasn't diagnosed at the time, I can only speculate on my pregnancy and postpartum problems in relation to celiac. Fortunately, I had a wonderful OB/GYN (and a lot of luck) and managed to carry to term despite all the problems. Unfortunately, nobody seemed able to help when it came to the breastfeeding...
  11. ms sillyak screwed- Here's the link on the Matrix site...can you believe it even has a picture of wheat right on the website?! They seem to be using the Wheat Germ (along with Aloe Vera and Algae) as marketing tools, so maybe it is newly reformulated. Open Original Shared Link BTW, I really appreciate all the research you've shared with us...
  12. Was just checking out this shampoo on the Matrix site and drugstore.com (a great place to get ingredients on health and beauty products by the way) and both are showing the hydrating shampoo with wheat...am I looking at the wrong thing??? As if gluten-free isn't hard enough, finding beauty products without soy seems imposible...HELP!!!
  13. Even after my positive stool tests, DH still wasn't convinced. So for my own peace of mind (and sanity), I also did the genetic test. After finding out that I had a celiac gene and a gluten-sensitive gene, DH is fully convinced and totally supportive...finally!!! As for that rest of the family, that remains to be seen. I'll be sharing the latest...
  14. Congratulations on becoming a mom...it really is a wonderful thing! I truly feel your pain as my story was very similar. There's been some great advice here regarding food/fluid intake, lactation consultants, hospital-grade breast pumps, La Leche League, etc. Another thing to check is your thyroid as low levels can negatively affect milk supply. And since...
  15. Hi, Alex and Welcome! I'm also a newbie here and am just starting to identify my intolerances so can't help much with that. I did want to comment on the fertility issues though, because I know from experience how difficult it can be. One of the most empowering things for me was reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. Not that it...
  16. Okay, that’s kinda what I thought…all good reasons for them, but not for me. 1) So right, Katherine! It’s what they’ve been taught (and they don’t really understand nutrition anyway). 2) I won’t need them and give them anymore $$$. Definitely a good one, ravenwoodglass! 3) They think it’s too hard like Patti said. But I’m with you, Jillian…I ...
  17. I’ve been lurking for the last few weeks and just wanted to say how much I appreciate all the information that’s here. I’ve not yet been formally dx’d, but a positive antigliadin AB along with an extensive personal and family history led me to the possibility of gluten sensitivity and/or celiac disease. As I am desperate for answers and relief, I’m re...
