  1. I did an experiment at the bar where I work. I ate some french fries one nite and got terribly sick. A few weeks later, I had my kitchen clean the fryer and fill it with brand new oil. Then I had some french fries again. They were delicious! And I felt fine. So informative!
  2. I'm in a way better mood overall AND my drinking hangovers aren't nearly as bad as they used to be!
  3. Newman's Own has a lot of gluten free dressings - check the FAQ on their website. I don't know if that falls under the 'natural' category, but I'm in love with the parmasan and roasted garlic vinaigrette. YUM. AND most stores carry his products.
  4. Ooh! How exciting is this for me?! I'm 24, live in Columbia, and I've been gluten free for like a month and a half. I'm getting in on the end of this conversation, but can I get some info if anyone finds a support group that still exists? And to share my findings - almost everything at El Burrito (Harden St) is gluten free (save the flour tortillas...
  5. Where is the usual outpouring of knowledgable replies from the forum?!?!
  6. I just wanted to start a whole new thread for this thyroid related to basal temps thing. (I didn't want Berneses' post to transform!) I'm 24, and my temperature is ALWAYS low. even as a child, when I would tell my mom I had a fever, I was usually sitting at 97 or 98. I can be burning UP, and at 96 or 97. I never thought it meant anything. I am hypothyroid...
  7. I have been gluten-free for a little bit over a month. (yay me!) Overall, I feel much better. That underlying, constant pain in the bottom of my gut is mostly gone. My headaches have lessened, but who knows what that's related to. I also seem to be in a much better mood! Anyways, along with this whole gluten thing, I was also having menstrual issues ...
  8. Newman's Own has a bunch of gluten free salad dressings, pasta sauces, etc...just check the FAQ on their website. I'm in love with the Parmasean and Roasted Garlic dressing. Yum!
  9. i subsisted on mashed potatoes and gravy for at least three days. i got novocaine, laughing gas, and then put to sleep.
  10. The glands in my neck are swollen and tender - almost painful to the touch. They've been like this for a while now, I guess. But I don't have a sore throat or a cold or anything. I've only been off gluten for about two weeks now. Could this be related to the whole gluten issue or is there something else going on that I should be concerned about? Both sides...
  11. My bloodwork came back negative yesterday, which was to be expected since I'd been off gluten for a few weeks prior to the test. Plus when I asked my doctor - don't I need to be actively eating gluten before this test? - he said no. I was found to be gluten sensitive about six or seven years ago and I cut back and felt better (no debilitating pain). I've...
  12. I take NatureMade which also say 'Gluten Free' right on the label. It's a pretty common brand - I got mine at Walgreens and I think I usually see them at the grocery store, too.
  13. Many thanks to everyone who takes the time to respond! Especially for answering the obvious questions that I, as a newbie, keep asking. There's a LOT of big words out there in this gluten-filled world, a limited amount of space in my brain, and two summer courses that are jammed into the same four weeks.
  14. Does anyone know of any gluten-free taco seasoning - the kind that comes in the little packets? I read in a different post on here that Old El Paso is gluten-free, but the first ingredient on all of them is maltodextrin. And I read something earlier today, also from this site, about the potential evils of maltodextrin. Mostly I just (still) feel like weeping...
  15. Mmm...I'd be nothing without cheese. My mom used to make this cheese dip when I was little that was melted velveeta with ground beef and salsa mixed in. Delish! I should bring back some of those delicious fat-filled recipes while I can still rationalize gluten as an excuse!
  16. I fear that I already know the answer to this question. But you know the cheese dip they serve at Mexican restaurants? The stuff they so cleverly call "queso?" Does anyone happen to know if, by some miracle of the heavens, this queso is gluten free? <<crossing my fingers>> ~Courtney
  17. This has probably been one of the most helpful threads I've happened upon. I'm 24 and a bartender, and was just diagnosed a little over a week ago. Everytime a regular offered to buy me a shot, I just cringed - especially that first nite before I'd done more research. (Not many people are up for straight vodka...) Does anyone know about Jameson? It's...
  18. Aren't most Haagen Daz (sp) ice creams gluten free? And what about places like Marble Slab and Cold Stone Creamery? Aside from the obvious CC problems, is their ice cream in general gluten-free?
  19. I would love for the little G to be posted in my grocery store. That list of no-nos is really long! And my memory is really short...
  20. Anyone know anything about flavored vodkas?
  21. Thank you so much! I've only been on here for a day, I've posted twice, and I've gotten a ton of responses. What a friendly illness!
  22. Okay, so it was suggested to me yesterday that I am sensitive to gluten - not intolerant. So I've spent the better part of today reading all sorts of disheartening things on the interent. I am going to try going off gluten for a while and see how my body reacts - about how long in general does it take to notice a difference? Second, listed on the forbidden...
  23. I'm about as new as they come to this whole gluten-free thing, but I'm ready to do whatever it takes to stop feeling like crap all the time. So. First thing's first. What am I looking for in terms of gluten-free products when I read lables?
