  1. Hm. I also got 13 out of 16 on that quiz... Although maybe it should be 14. I don't DRINK any caffeinated beverages, but I do take enough Excedrin to constitute a caffeine problem! Thanks CarlaB. I'm finding a new dr. so I will definately mention this in my interviews. I mean consultations. -Courtney
  2. I am going to have to look this place up on mapquest! I usually go to hotsprings, nc for my minivacations, but I've only eaten out once (the cabins are fully equipped). Thanks for the tip! -Courtney
  3. To clarify, I've never seen Boars Head as prepackaged. It is something I always bought in the deli, freshly sliced. I got some ham to go on my new gluten-free pita flats this past week, and I haven't had any problems yet. At least nothing major, as so much is screwed up to begin with... From their website: Are your products Gluten Free? All Boar...
  4. Thanks - It's just that after going gluten-free, the brain fog lifted so noticably...and now it's kinda back pretty bad. And I don't know if it's from one of my ignorant self-glutenings because i'm still so new at this, or if it has to do with something else. Either way, as we all know, it's incredibly frustrating. It's very difficult to be proactive...
  5. Before going gluten-free I always bought Boars Head products. I just checked on their website last week and it said that all their deli meats were gluten-free. So...rock on to that! -Courtney
  6. Does anyone else experience brain fog as a symptom of a food intolerance/allergy OTHER than gluten? And after you've glutened yourself, how long does your brain fog usually stick around for? Thanks - Courtney
  7. Thanks Marcia I already keep a food journal - have been on and off for years, if only so I can see just HOW much I"m eating! As for my safe foods...it all seems to have gotten jumbled up into one gigantic ball of abdominal pain. I suppose that just means some extra experimentation. After cutting everything out did you find that you had like a detox period...
  8. Two months gluten-free. First week was AMAZING. since then, I'm sliding back down that slippery, slippery slope of feeling like crap. I don't know if I've gotten sloppy with my diet, or if my body is discovering its other intolerances. Either way, I have a really hard time focusing all my energy (eating gluten-free) on something that's still making me...
  9. Nope, me too. Stomach pains. Horrible, awful, literally crippling pain. I don't know how else to describe it. I've been getting them again lately, which tells me that my diet has gotten very messy. The other day I was sitting on the floor waiting for a class, and my friend came to help me up by my arm. I made a pathetic little noise and doubled back over...
  10. Green poop has to do with WHAT you eat. (I googled this a while ago as it was quite a disconcerting suprise!) As far as I understand, it's not a bad thing. For example, drinking lots of Kool-Aid will turn your poop green. I think it has to do with the chemical make up of certain types of food. I don't remember what types of food are guilty of this other...
  11. How interesting... I absolutely refuse to drink Dasani water because it always makes me sick. About five or six years ago when it first came out, it was the only bottled water we had at the place I worked. And every morning I drank a bottle and every morning I got sick. Sadly, it took me WAY too long to put two and two together. Either way, I still get sick...
  12. How did you go about finding a celiac specialist?
  13. I definately want some royalties. I found them in a small specialty store called OK-Carbs. I don't recall ever seeing this brand anywhere else, but like all things, gluten-free shopping just seems to blur together sometimes.
  14. I've learned not to expect the world from gluten free foods. But I found these frozen pita flats at a specialty store the other day,a nd thought I'd try them. Now I wish I'd bought several boxes! Yum! I just heated one up in the oven for a few minutes and then put some mayo, ham and cheese on it and let it heat through some more. Just thought I'd put...
  15. Well I placed an order for the enterolab test last nite. So I have at least set the wheels in motion. I got the test that provides the most info and it comes with a free dairy test, too. I'm still up in the air about the allergen testing. I think I might keep my OCD food journal for a while longer and see if I don't notice any patterns. That and I'm...
  16. Thanks! It was my little revelation right before bed, which was unsuccessfully researched. I will call the company as soon as it is 'business hours.'
  17. I just wanted to share with any of the Central South Carolinians out there that I found a new store! Well, it's new to me, at least. It's out in Harbison about two doors down from the Outback. It's called OK-Carbs and the guy who owns/runs it is super nice. It's small, but about half of the entire store is dedicated to gluten-free products. A lot of pasta...
  18. I've been feeling pretty crappy the past week or so, and I've been trying to figure out what it could possibly be linked to. I realized I just started taking some allergy meds again - OTC generic Claritin from Walgreens. Wal-itin (Loratadine) Does anyone know offhand if this has gluten in it? What is pregelatinized starch? I checked their website but...
  19. I don't care that it's still in the mid 80s down here...sometimes you just need comfort food!
  20. Thanks everyone! I think I might just try all the suggestions on one day and purge myself with deliciousness..... MMmm
  21. I have been gluten-free for two months now and I haven't had any bread. Really, I'm not craving it at all. So that's good. But I could totally go for a grilled cheese with some tomato soup. MmmMmm good. So. what's everyone's favorite gluten-free bread out there? And tomato soup? Are there any gluten-free premade brands that I can just pop open the can...
  22. I'll write a letter to the paper, too (I'm a crazy, letter-writin' fool!) Somebody needs to get in contact with this girl and give her the website for this forum...Yikes! And I agree, gfp, that this is a dangerous article for those in the service industry to read. 7 years ago I WAS the waitress picking the croutons off the salad before I served it (granted...
  23. I have some severe migraines going on and have for months. Years, really. But about 8 months ago they started increasing in both severity and frequency. It's what lead me to the doctor and to try going gluten-free to begin with. I take more Excedrin in a month's time than any one person should take in a given year. That's bad. But it's the only OTC drug...
  24. Now, I'm no doctor. But it seems to me that if you had changed from hypo to hyper you wouldn't be still feeling so fatigued or depressed with the fun of the mood swings added in. If I were you, I probably wouldn't stop taking the meds just because they take at least 3 weeks to build up in your system. So when you DO go back to the doctor, you want them...
  25. Check out Taco Bell's website. Nearly everything they make is gluten-filled. Smaller fast food restaurants should have similar operating procedures as do larger ones because it is all based on corporate policy. One difference might be a large McDonald's or BK, for example, does so much business that they have dedicated fryers for the fries. A smaller...
