ARCHIVED Attn: Bartenders & Mixologists
Corkdarrr replied to katrinamaria's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Off the top of my head... vodka sprite? Maybe with a splash of juice in it depending on what type of juice they have at the bar? that's the only thing I can think of that would fit all those qualifcations, but I'll think about it some more. Courtney -
ARCHIVED Wisconsin Celiacs Unite!
Corkdarrr replied to frenchiemama's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am SO jealous. This isn't fair! I grew up in Wisconsin. Lived there for 21 years. Since moving to SC four years ago, I've been diagnosed through a positive diet change and then through Enterolab. South Carolina doesn't have SQUAT compared to Wisconsin. Certainly not a 7 page post about all the fabulous places to go. Well, I always knew I wanted to... -
ARCHIVED Headaches In Celiac Patients
Corkdarrr replied to jebus's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was at my wit's end trying to find a trigger for my migraines when I went gluten free as a last resort. While it only cut my headaches back a little bit, I realized that my stomach felt great! Courtney -
I did this test almost two months ago for my kinesiologist who has been trying to help me via email. The first splotch I put on disappeared within an hour and a half. I thought maybe I did it wrong, so I tried again. The second splotch took a little under six hours to disappear. I'm sure that means nothing to my GP, but to me it is just further...

ARCHIVED Brain Fog
Corkdarrr replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Per the elimination/detox diet I'm doing, my digestive system hasn't felt this good in ten years! It's amazing. I was tested by Enterolab and found out I am casein intolerant as well, but I have eliminated most everything to figure out what else could be potentially giving me problems. I start adding things back in in about two weeks. I'm just having... -

ARCHIVED Something With Ground Turkey
Corkdarrr posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Since i'm on this elimination diet, I really can't eat much. But I can eat turkey and chicken. I was walking the dogs this morning and somebody was making hamburgers. Mmm. So I really want to make something with ground turkey, but I'm not sure what - especially since my choices of ingredients are so very, VERY limited. Any suggestions would be greatly... -
ARCHIVED Labeling Question
Corkdarrr replied to skipper30's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If a product is gluten free, then it is, by nature, wheat free. However, just because a product does not contain wheat, it does not mean it is gluten free. Label reading will get easier - I promise! It just takes a lot of practice. And pretty soon you will begin to recognize which companies you can trust, and which ones will 'hide' gluten. I am always... -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog
Corkdarrr replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So either it takes a really long time to go away, or we're just a bunch of airheads! -
ARCHIVED Eating gluten-free In College
Corkdarrr replied to kduggan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yeah...I went to my school's nutritionist at the beginning of the semester just to see if she could help me any further in terms of meal ideas. She felt so bad! It was blatantly obvious that I knew a TON more about celiac than she did. The only thing she had in her office about celiac was the most basic info. She said she'd do more research if I wanted... -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog
Corkdarrr posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The first week I went gluten-free, one of the most noticable symptoms to lift (other than constant stomach pain) was the brain fog. I think...see, I have a really bad memory, too. Regardless, the first time I glutened myself after going gluten-free, brain fog was one of the most noticable symptoms that came back (other than the digestive horrors). It... -
ARCHIVED Graham Cracker Crumbs?
Corkdarrr replied to bmzob's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would try smashing up gluten-free cookies (shortbread) and using the crumbs. -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Turkey......
Corkdarrr replied to jnifred's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I agree with Britni - could they have been referring to the stuffing? -
Steve, I've been watching my water consumption the last few days and it hasn't been as high as it was the 85oz day. Even when I worked last nite which is where I thought I woudl drink the most. I thought it was 8-10 glasses...although obviously there's plenty of skepticism out there now about even the 8x8 recommendation. I'm doing a liver detox/elimination...

ARCHIVED Frequent Urination. Why?
Corkdarrr replied to SarahTorg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I started a post a few days ago about this very topic. My doctor told me that I may be drinking TOO much water, which just sounded silly to me, as it seems most people don't drink enough. Anyways, this should be the link to get there (you may have to copy and paste) Open Original Shared Link There's some really good info from people on here about water... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Scream And Have A Meltdown!
Corkdarrr replied to Turtle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Poor Turtle......people can be such jerks. I'm impressed though - I totally would've blown by now! Courtney -
I second Tarnalberry's advice My family has had several exchange students and both my brother and I were exchange students ourselves. Per the diet, it would probably be a good thing if you could say you've already found a few families interested in hosting b/c of the celiac thing, but there's a LOT of formalities that go into doing an exchange program and...

ARCHIVED What Is Grain Alcohol Usually?
Corkdarrr replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's a really good question...I hope someone on here knows the answer to it. I found a minibottle of grain alcohol just the other day. Of course, being liquor they dont' have to print anything on it except not to drink while pregnant or drink and drive. Of course, this bottle also has a warning about how flammable it is...190 proof would do it... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins And Supplements

YES! Earthfare has some awesome foods. They have a hot buffet line as well as a salad bar that I believe is up for all three meals. Things seem to be clearly labeled as to what they contain. Again CC is an issue at any buffet line, but if you asked them a question they'd probably know what you were talking about! They also have a deli where they make stuff...

ARCHIVED Vitamins And Supplements
Corkdarrr posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay, so I use the NatureMade vitamins and a few of the Natrol supplements. I like both these brands because they clearly state what they don't contain (for example my NatureMade magnesium): No articifical colors, no artificial flavors, no preservatives, no chemical solvents, yeast, starch or gluten My 5HTP from Natrol states: No yeast, wheat, corn,... -
I haven't chanced any sandwich places...do they have a website or something you can check? for example, I know boar's heads meats are all gluten-free, and certain brands of condiments are okay. So theoretically you could get a sub from Publix on your own bread (depending on what type of condiments they use)...but it all depends on how concerned over CC you...

ARCHIVED Is Gluten Free Being Celiac?
Corkdarrr replied to KarenLee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I tend to use the two interchangably. My Enterolab gene tests showed two gluten sensitive genes but no celiac genes...but from what I understand that doesn't mean that there isn't damage being done when I consume gluten. Maybe someone else can explain it better? Either way, same difference as far as I'm concerned! Courtney EDIT:: that doesn't mean... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab-how Long Did It Take?
Corkdarrr replied to breann6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mine also took about two to two and a half weeks. I got the 'best value' test done including genes and the casein test was done for free. Courtney -
Good eye, Carla! I've been eating a ton of bananas. But I do salt my food, just not excessively like something deliciously simple and prepackaged (oh, to spend four minutes preparing dinner instead of 40!) But I think what is difficult about this is that I had noticed this a month or two ago - before I went on the elimination diet. And I know I was getting...
