  1. Haha...I was just going to put up another thread! How funny that this one is active again. I was just going to say that apparently some woman died from drinking too much water recently. She was part of a radio contest for the new Nintendo Wii. It was called like Wee for Wii or something witty like that. My boyfriend read about it or saw a little news...
  2. I second Angie's advice. I think it's awesome that they attempted to suit your dietary circumstances. But people who aren't directly affected by this don't think about reading the labels on the spices they use, etc... Then there's the whole CC issue...the list goes on and on. Personally, I'm still at the stage where if I haven't personally made it...
  3. That is a GREAT way to make your point. And I bet it was amusing for you at the same time!
  4. I did an elimination/detox diet given to me by my kinesiologist. It was outlined and supported with a protein powder. I was supposed to add something new in every three days, but everything kind of fell apart at that point. Either way, I felt AMAZING for those three weeks at least! visit thorne.com for more info - search for MediClear. Or Ultra clear Sustain...
  5. I went on an elimination/detox diet and by the second week I was not having any solid BMs. I felt great, though! I think it definately depends on what you're eliminating - and fruits do tend to help things 'move' a little better.
  6. That is an excellent suggestion - Thanks!
  7. The worst part is that it's totally and completely my fault for my brain shutting off. Never did the hint of a request even escape my lips...I just plum forgot! Luckily it seems to be a rather mild glutening as compared to others. So now I'm definately glad I didn't go out for cheesesticks after work. Either way, it seems like the worst of it has passed...
  8. Don't take it so personally! There is a LOT of information out there and a lot of people on this board are very particular about sorting the good from the bad. Citing sources can be kind of important... All we can say for sure is what works for us personally. I'd be severely ill if I were to drink a glass of milk - same as if I were to eat some delicous...
  9. I have read and skimmed over seemingly hundreds of posts about visiting the dentist since going gluten-free in July. However this morning...or really ever since two days ago when the office called to confirm my appointment, my brain has not actually been functioning. I completely forgot about the whole dental products/gluten relationship. I am so...
  10. Natrol brand comes in a purple bottle which says specifically that it contains no: yeast, wheat, corn, milk, egg, soy, glutens, artifical colors or flavors, added sugar, starch or preservatives
  11. Thanks for such a thorough review! I LOVE Asheville and the surrounding areas, and now I have another reason to visit.
  12. Mmmmm...magnesium supplements! Tremendous help. Naturemade is gluten-free and CF
  13. Saz's has a gluten-free menu, and I believe Beans and Barley does as well. Beans and Barley is located down on the East Side off North Ave.
  14. Welcome to the board! And let us know how your doctor's appointment goes.
  15. Tostito's - never had a problem
  16. Thai Kitchen has some good gluten-free stuff that just needs water and a microwave. Also not the healthiest stuff, but it's nice for adding variety. You can even order it online in bulk (I like the Mushroom Noodle Bowls!) I also hate leftovers, but I've found spaghetti, chili and soups reheat really well. (Make sure the pasta and sauce are mixed before you...
  17. Ami- Hope you feel better soon! Many people find that after going gluten-free, they become more sensitive to dairy. That's because the part of your intestine that absorbs and digests dairy is the most easily damaged, and the last part to heal - the tips of the villi. I'd suggest cutting out dairy for a few weeks and see if that helps at all. Many people...
  18. I second what Debbie said. I've been gluten-free for almost six months and I'm STILL finding hidden gluten in the most random places. There's definately a learning curve that goes along with being gluten-free, and it will take you some time. For me, the first week was like...I don't know. Amazing! I couldn't belive how wonderful I felt. Then the honeymoon...
  19. Wow...how fast were you walking!?
  20. Welcome to the board! I hope it provides as much support for you as it has for me. I'm 25 and self diagnosed myself through a positive dietary response about six months ago. And I sympathize with you. It is INCREDIBLY frustrating. Not to mention the whole host of other random medical issues that seem to accompany those with Celiacs. I wish I could...
  21. I am absolutely horrified by the advice your dietician has given to you, and I would find a new dietician immediately. Long rant made short, you cannot 'eat around' gluten. Avoiding gluten means more than just picking the bun off your hamburger, or the croutons off your salad. It means the bun cannot touch the hamburger, and the croutons cannot be on...
  22. I've read on other posts from this board about people who have eaten a large amount of gluten (such as 3 pancakes) with little to no immediate reaction. The school of thought seems to be that eating so much gluten at once puts your system into shock, and it takes a while for it all to register. Hope you feel better soon!
  23. When I first went gluten-free I went through all the denial and just *had* to see what would happen. Yuck! I learned my lesson. Plus the more I learn about all the different ways it affects my body and mind, I have no desire to cheat and test the fates anymore. I definately seem to get more depressed when I've been glutened. I'm really sleepy....
  24. Thanks, Molly. Don't get me wrong - I prefer the whole *not* being violently ill thing to that the obviously there yet underlying discomfort. It's just weird. I'm sad, too. That used to be my one safe restaurant to eat at. Now two times in a row I've gotten sick so they've obviously changed something in the kitchen from the previous 8 times I'd...
  25. So I've been gluten-free for almost six months now. And when I started gluten-free, and I accidentally (or once or twice on purpose ) ate gluten, I KNEW it. I knew it like the stomach flu for three days. It was intense. It was nasty. And it was immediate. I went out to dinner last nite and about 30 minutes in, I was pretty sure I'd been glutened. Not...
