ARCHIVED Gluten, Thyroid And Adrenal
Corkdarrr replied to CaMaKe's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am just now figuring out my thyroid after being dx hypo over 13 years ago. Georgie pointed me to STTM, and it is a great site for information - with the obvious undertones of frustrated thyroid sufferers! I also tore through Mary Shomon's book, 'Living Well With Hypothyroidism.' By the end of it I was *literally* hopping mad that I'd spent the last... -
Does anyone know the dairy status of mayo? I was at a party last nite and has some Duke's mayo with my bunless brat. I read the ingredients and saw no red flags. PLUS they had the summary of allergens at the end of the ingredients that i've come to fall in love with. So, I assume that out of the big 8, it only containted EGGS and SOY, since those were...

ARCHIVED Ridiculously Bloated, "stopped Up", Etc
Corkdarrr replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Taking a daily magnesium supplement can also keep you regular. I take two a day, but when I start to feel stopped up I might double it for a day or two until things start going again. -

ARCHIVED Do You Really Need To Send Your Blood Work Out To Other Labs?
Corkdarrr replied to janelyb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What specialty labs are you referring to? -
A lot of celiacs are underweight due to malabsorption. When your intestines are too damaged to absorb the food, it literally...runs right through you! And yes, aside from the obvious gastro symptoms, it can make you feel depressed, fatigued, anxious, disrupt sleep...the list could go on forever. Courtney

Yes, thanks SO much for going directly to the company and speaking out. How did the Shepard's Pie go? -
ARCHIVED Amy's Kitchen
Corkdarrr replied to Rebecca47's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thought I read on here at one time or another that the pizza was made in a dedicated facility, but that many of their frozen entrees were not. The pizza is quite good, so long as you add some more cheese and your own toppings. I also used to eat the rice mac and cheese without any blatantly noticable problems. But the enchiladas and mexican bowl... -
ARCHIVED St. Ives Products
Corkdarrr replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you!!!! My favorite lotion before this whole gluten thing is the St. Ive's FresH20 - the blue stuff with the little 'beads of moisture.' Anyways, I've been meaning to put a post up on here for weeks to ask if anyone knew its gluten status. Yay!! Courtney -
ARCHIVED Awaiting Test Results
Corkdarrr replied to Lindsey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the above poster - listen to your body. So many doctors want to treat based on lab results and ignore how the patient actually FEELS. (Case and point my undertreated hypothyroidism for the past seven or eight years...not to mention all the GI issues!) Welcome to the board, and let us know what the results say! And per the gluten-free diet... -
ARCHIVED Amy's Kitchen
Corkdarrr replied to Rebecca47's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree - they clearly are trying to cater to the gluten-free market...but they'd do a WHOLE lot better if they used dedicated lines. I can recall a LOT of posts from people on this board who won't touch their foods anymore due to CC, even though they state Gluten Free on the box. I think it's awesome that you're going TO the company HQ, too! Edit... -
ARCHIVED Soy Lechtin Question ?
Corkdarrr replied to Rebecca47's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
All I know is that it is an emulsifier used in chocolates. It's in my gluten-free CF chocolate bars. Hopefully somebody else will jump in that has a little more info. Otherwise...google works wonders! Courtney -
ARCHIVED Ibs Or Really A Gluten Problem?
Corkdarrr replied to CAS221's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In my humble opinion, a diagnosis of IBS means that you have digestive issues, but the doctors just have no clue. In terms of receiving an official diagnosis, that's up to you. I, along with many others on this board, chose the route of self-diagnosis. I had a blood test done which came back negative because I'd already been gluten-free for several... -
ARCHIVED Underwear For Celiacs

ARCHIVED Glutino Bread
Corkdarrr replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the speedy replies!! I actually just took my brand new gluten-free toaster out of the box (made the boyfriend buy a second toaster tonite!) and saw a setting for frozen. Which I spose I answered my original question. But gluten-free stuff always cooks differently... Thanks! I'm kinda psyched about eating a piece of bread now...plus... -
ARCHIVED Glutino Bread
Corkdarrr posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So I've been on this diet for about six months now. And the only time I crave bread/bagels/baked goods, etc..is when it's right in front of me. So today, a friend of mine went and bought me some of the Glutino bread, which is kept in the freezer section. I don't imagine I'll go through it very quickly, and it's in my freezer right now. I guess I'm... -
ARCHIVED Disarnno (liquor)
Corkdarrr replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Very true. House liquors are usually awful. However, the bar I work at only stocks Disaronno. And I'M the one making the shots. That's quality control for ya! -
Personally, I would just eat nothing. But, since that may not be a reasonable option, I would stick to things like the fresh fruits and veggies. Maybe salad if you bring your own dressing. But certainly nothing that has been prepared in any way. But please be careful! Not only are you dealing with not knowing how the food has been prepared, but a buffet...

ARCHIVED Sound Like Celiac To You?
Corkdarrr replied to chocolatelover's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well...in terms of some of the more specific tests, I don't know what to tell you. My GP did the bloodwork after I requested it, but by then I'd already been gluten-free for several weeks. It came back negative, which it probably would've anyways. After reading a lot on this board, I have very little faith in the medical profession's ability to diagnose... -
Do you have a favorite, regular bar? If so, you can go in during a slow period and ask to read the ingredients on their mixers so you know what's safe. As a bartender, I can attest to the fact that it's okay if a customer is a pain in the ass if the tip is above average. I regularly go out of the way for my regular customers and for those who tip well...

ARCHIVED Let's Talk About Depression And Celiac...
Corkdarrr replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Logically speaking, I'm depressed because I've been in poor health for 10+ years, still don't feel THAT much better after being gluten-free for six months and CF for 1+ months....and I CAN'T EAT ANYTHING. My thyroid is out of whack. My adrenals are out of whack. My neurotransmitters are severely deficient. It's very frustrating. Add to that the majority of... -
