    ARCHIVED Brain Fog

Hang in there, hang in there, hang in there! It WILL get better. (And you WILL get sick of hearing that.) I still have very noticable brain fog. What scares me is when I'm driving...'cuz I completely zone out. that's just not safe! I am constantly making little stupid errors due to brain fog. Forgetting entire conversations. It's VERY frustrating...
  2. Based on this website I found both Pedialyte and Ensure are gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link Ross Products Division, Abbott Laboratories (Columbus, OH) Alimentum Liquid Ensure Products Isomil Formulas Jevity Products Similac Formulas Osmolite Products Pedialyte Oral Rehydration Pediasure Formulas Similac Formulas I don't know how...
  3. Okay, so then what this means is that ANY time I eat either gluten or casein it will create an autoimmune reaction in my body? And this is why I can never, ever eat these things again, right? Clearly, I am still in some sort of rationalization stage!! -Courtney
  4. Tarnalberry, your post is such a relief to me! I have been reading countless posts over the past few months about people who's migraines magically (and luckily!) disappeared after going gluten-free. And while mine have definately lessened in frequency, they are still there. And they are still just as severe. I take a godawful amount of Excedrin, although...
  5. Thank you, thank you, Nancy! Luckily, I also love Thai Food. It is fast becoming a staple now that dairy is ruled out and that was my favorite part of mexican. (mmm...sour cream.....)
  6. Carla, I'm still unclear on a lot of things. Hence my enormous amount of posts lately! From what I understand, because I did not have eitehr of the celiac genes, I do NOT have celiac. But I do have gluten intolerance. And again, from what I understand, if I eat gluten it's going to make me sick - obviously! But if I go gluten-free for a long while and...
  7. Magnesium does wonders for your digestive system. At least give it a try - a bottle of magnesium supplements is cheap so it's not like you'll be out a lot of cash. just in doubling my dosage for the past three days it is AMAZING how much more "productive" my bowel system has become! I was somewhat of a skeptic, but not anymore~ Courtney
  8. I agree with many of the above posts that there are both good and bad chiropractors. But I was raised in a family that believes in chiropractic medicien and have been going to see one since I was very young (10 or 11 if not earlier). I whole heartedly believe in chiropractic medicine...IF it's the right dr. Since moving away from the chiro I grew up with...
  9. Are you taking a magnesium supplement? I had the same problem after my last glutening and so I upped it to 2x250mg a day instead of just one. It did wonders! -Courtney
  10. Turtle, I guess this once again settles our Swanson debate! Psawyer - I was just wondering if Campbells was one of the companies that 'hides' its gluten. Words like natural flavorings and spices really worry me! I wasn't aware that they labeled so clearly - good to know!
  11. Yum! Thanks, Paulina. I made Thai food tonite and used coconut milk in the peanut sauce. One of my favorites. I hadn't thought of using it elsewhere, though. So many good ideas out there.
  12. I wrote to Campbell's and they sent me a copy of their gluten-free list...a little sparse when compared to their extensive product list. But definately good news for anyone who likes V8 (not me)! Chunky soup Chicken Broccoli Cheese 18 oz. Select Soup Savory Lentil 19 oz. Prego Pasta Sauce Traditional Sauce all sizes Three...
  13. Uuuuuuuuch. I just got back from our sorry excuse for a health food store. Turtle, we really are gonna need to road trip up to Charlotte some time soon! I felt very much like the first few times I attempted to go shopping for gluten-free foods...like I wanted to break down and cry in the middle of the aisles! Oddly enough, this is at least...
  14. Thanks all! I'm really still trying to wrap my head around all this and am at a loss for what to eat. My boyfriend just asked me if he could eat the pizza in the freezer since I won't ever be able to. I told him he HAD to eat the pizza in the freezer, but four days into my dairy free adventures when I'm still debating about what I could possibly...
  15. I think the positive dietary response is the most important. I just received my Enterolab results and did not have either of the celiac genes, but did have two gluten sensitivity genes. While it's nice to know that I'm not doing any damage when I do mess up, I'm not going to go back to eating how I used to if it's going to make me feel like crap. As for...
  16. So it's only been four days for me without dairy. And a long, long four days it's been. On the plus side, I definately don't feel like a huge bloated whale all the time. So that's been nice! But. I have hope. And I know I have willpower. The only problem is that whenever I messed up on cooking I'd just put cheese on top of it as a sort of "deliciousness...
  17. I dont' know what the hops question is about, and I don't know if you're a beer drinker. But I'm working on getting New Grist into Bar None. I've never been much of a beer drinker myself, but once it was taken away from me it started to sound really good. Also, a friend of mine bought me some fancy licorace - Trader Joe's, I think. And the first ingredient...
  18. I gave up dairy two days ago because I got my Enterolab results back. It's the saddest thing I've ever had to do. But. I've noticed that I'm not feeling quite as bloated, and I look forward to a week or two from now to see if there's really any huge difference. About the energy..it's been three months for me gluten-free. And I am still exhausted most...
  19. Both regular and sugar free Red Bull are gluten-free, as well as the 180 energy drink (all verified through email). I like the 180 - it tastes like orange soda to me! Courtney
  20. I am the same way. Most mornings I wake up nauseaus - been like that for YEARS. For the most part, I just don't eat breakfast and I think that helps. I usually eat around 10 in the morning, and then I have a later lunch. I have always had a hard time eating right after getting up. It seems like my body needs an hour or two before it can get going. Really...
  21. Where did you see that you need to eat gluten prior to an Enterolab test? I've never seen that - their website states pretty clearly that you need not eat gluten, and that the test is more accurate if you stay on your current diet rather than changing things around. That's one reason that the test makes everyone so happy around here - no need for a painful...
  22. I understand that either you are or you aren't...I guess I just don't see what the significance of the numbers is if a 12 is the same as a 20 is the same as a 285, ya' know? How confusing!
  23. Thanks for the warning, Shalia...why must the world conspire against those of us with food intolerances and make things so difficult?!? Carla, I really like this description. Especially because looking back, I remember how I didn't used to feel sick all the time. And how gradually it snuck up on me and all the sudden I was. Especially when...
  24. Aww, man... I like feta cheese...this is turning into WAY too many losses for just one night! I'm sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well...I hate moving. I have moved an average of once a year for the past five years. (Granted, I'm in my early 'transient' 20s) I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary in this particular apartment, and I'm ecstatic...
  25. Carla - So just to clarify, casein is only found in cow's milk, right? So I can still have feta and...well cheeses that are not based on cow's milk? And then rice milk because everything I've heard about soy lately has been really bad, so I'd rather stay away from it if I can. Once you went casein free, how long was it before you noticed a difference...
