:D There was a huge article in my local papers dining section, Mid-valley eateries strive to include gluten-free offerings! Ahhhh finally I found something around here! I found out that in my town, not only is there the outback, but a rather uppity pricey place downtown called bentley's, a thai place, and a place called marco polo is coming out with there menu next week. This is wonderful news, since the only one around here is outback, while great at that I am getting tired of the same place. Also there is a nutritionist, also a member of a gluten intollerance group, teaching a course at the local community college who is instructing local food-service workers how to prepare meals for those with special dietary needs, including celiac. And to top off the good news there is a place where I can get gluten free pizza, called Talarico's Mercado, an hour away, I don't care I'm going! Just happy to finaly hear something about celiac around here, I was starting to think I lived on mars! :D

Sorry, I think I got you mixed up with another poster.

I hadn't been eating gluten free before having the antibody test done. I started eating gluten free after having the test done because the gastro PA told me to eat gluten-free for 6 months. I'm now 3 months in.

I tend to agree with RMJ. Your doc took the reasonable and practical approach to diagnosis. All things considered, it was the right way to go. However, if you have first degree relatives that show signs of possible celiac disease, urge them to get formally tested before they start the gluten free diet.

It sounds like you have a very reasonable GI doctor, who diagnosed you based on family history and symptoms after eating gluten. I would consider you lucky! The other option would be to make yourself very sick by doing weeks of a gluten challenge prior to an endoscopy.
