Garbo Toast Bread: For Those About to Toast, Garbo Salutes You!

Reviewed and edited by a celiac disease expert.

Toast is the perfect comfort food. It's also something I've practically given up on bread since I became gluten-free.

Celiac.com 07/30/2007 - Mmmmm...Toast. The smell of toast filling the room in the morning.

A perfectly toasted piece of white bread transformed to a perfectly golden brown at the center and at the edges, an aroma packed with memories, evoking deep sighs and wistful smiles.

Toast is the perfect comfort food. It's also something I've practically given up on bread since I became gluten-free. So, when my Garbo gluten free, dairy free Toast bread arrived, I tried not to get too excited. I'd never tried it and was taking a stab at joy.

Most of the breads I've tried required toasting first to be anywhere near palatable, and even then, the ones I've tried have been too dense, too chewy, way too sticky, and distinctly lacking in flavor. Most of all, I've yet to find one that gives off the memory-rich aroma of freshly toasted white bread.

Until now. Garbo Toast Bread has officially rocked my world! Gluten-Free and dairy-free, Garbo Toast bread brings the joy of toast back to the world of the gluten-free diet.

First, I tried it straight from the toaster and slathered with butter. It was perfectly chewy, and not at all sticky like so many gluten-free breads I've tried and given up on. If I hadn't known it was gluten-free, I would have had to double check. It looked and smelled and tasted like some kind of exotic European white bread.

Later on, I experimented. Since I still eat dairy, I toasted a slice and tried it with a soft-boiled egg! I was in heaven. For lunch I toasted two slices, buttered them, then added a slice of cheese. I then grilled it gently over a medium heat for the most wonderful toasty, gluten free grilled cheese sandwich. The next morning I had a slice with butter and my favorite jam.More heaven. I went through my first bag of Garbo Toast bread in two days!I promptly ordered not one, not two, but four more loaves!

With their gluten free, dairy free Toast bread, Garbo has brought the joy of toast...warm, aromatic, perfectly golden, perfectly chewy, perfectly yummy toast back to my previously untoasty gluten-free life.

For those us whose lives are dark without toast, and only a bit brighter with our previous toast choices, we salute Garbo!

For those about to toast, Garbo salutes you!

I had a gluten-free bread that "worked", until I recently tried the gluten-free certified Rudi's Multigrain Bread. I'm always a bit of a skeptic when trying new gluten-free products especially gluten-free bread! However, I couldn't ignore the buzz about Rudi's gluten-free bread and I am so glad that I had the opportunity to give it a try. I took out a slice of their Multigrain Bread to try and was pleasantly surprised. Rudi's bread was literally like a slice of heaven. Their Multigrain Bread had such an amazing taste and texture, even though I'm usually not a fan of mulitgrain breads. However, I still had to put it to the ultimate test and make a deli-style sandwich with all the fixings. I have yet to find a gluten-free bread that doesn't fall apart after the first bite when I add moist...

JD's Best Gluten Free Doughnut Holes
Celiac.com 09/29/2011 - I was really excited when I received a cooler full of JD's Best Gluten Free Doughnut Holes. I haven't had a doughnut hole since before I went gluten-free.
The preparation instructions were simple enough, and I decided use a toaster oven rather than a microwave. After preheated the oven it only took around 7 minutes for them to become warm and slightly crispy—just enough time for me to get the coffee ready.
The first thing that struck me as I bit into one was how perfectly JD’s had captured the exact taste and texture of the doughnut holes that I remember—they tasted just like the real thing!

Bold Organics Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free Veggie Lovers Pizza
Great news for anyone who is not only on a gluten-free diet: Bold Organics Veggie Lovers Pizza is also dairy-free and vegan.  This pizza is topped generously with organic roasted peppers, onions, shiitake mushrooms and Follow Your Heart's vegan mozzarella cheese.  My kids didn't even question the dairy-free cheese and just dug right in.  This thin crust pizza baked up beautifully, and we all loved the flavor and the texture!  Not to mention that this is a wonderful treat for those with additional food allergies for it is also free from peanuts, tree nuts and eggs.

    Second Helping Mama's Gluten-Free Meatballs
Over the weekend I tried Second Helping's "Mama's Meatballs" and was pleasantly surprised. They are authentic, Italian style gluten-free meatballs that are made with all natural beef. In addition to being gluten-free they are also dairy/casein, nut and soy-free, and are non-GMO.
The first thing I noticed about them is that they are good-sized and not greasy. It doesn't say low fat on the package, but to me it seems like they must be made from leaner, lower fat beef than most meatballs I've had, which I really like. They also have a very even, fine consistency, as though the beef is very finely ground, and again, perhaps leaner.
The meatballs are perfectly seasoned with the usual Italian herbs, and I appreciate that they did not overdo it with the seasonings, as can be the case with...
