OKay this is odd. I tested NEGATIVE to an allergy to oranges (which is good cause I LOVE THEM!!!) and I have no problems drinking pure OJ... but when I eat one my lips get all tingly and numb.

Any ideas WHY? Not like Im gonna stop eating them :)

not sure why...for me i can't handle oj or an entire orange b/c of the acid--very upsetting to my stomach.

That's weird, I wish I had an answer because I have a similar thing with eggs. If I eat an over-easy egg I get a really strange tickly feeling in my throat and mouth (like I have to cough or something) but if I eat scrambled eggs or something with egg in it, I have no trouble.

Maybe it's the oil in the skin that's doing it.

Frenchiemama- I have the same as you with eggs. The immune system is a weird and tricky thing.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
