So my hair had been getting really dry, and I decided it was time for a shampoo change.  I went in search of finding gluten free products, and ended up in Target looking around and found Shea Moisture products, which are labeled gluten free.  It's only been a week of use, but my hair is already softer and my scalp is not as dry.  Before spending the money at Target, I went and read reviews first, and then made the purchase.  I bought the moisture retention shea shampoo and conditioner, but they have one for curly hair and several other hair types.  They are on sale BOGO 50% on Walgreens.com this week, but I think today is the last day of that sale.  I would recommend these!

 

PS-I've always had fine, stick straight hair that never holds curl.  Some peoples hair poofs up in humidity, and mine goes even straighter.  In fact, when I was younger, my Mom took me to get my hair permed at a nice salon, and much to her disappointment, the expensive, supposedly permanent salon perm came out within a few days.  that's when she stopped suggesting I always curl it  :P

I read on another website that gluten can't be absorbed through the skin as the molecules are too large. Is this not right?

it seems to be a personal choice whether to use gluten free hair, skin and makeup products.  I've also read that the molecule is too large to be absorbed through the skin, but especially with hair care, what if some happens to run down your face and get in your mouth, or you don't wash your hands after touching your face with makeup containing gluten and then use your hands to touch food going into your mouth?  I'm trying to cover all my bases, but in the end you've got to make your own choice about using gluten free hair and skin products  :)

      This is a very common question, and the most important thing to know is that no, Guinness is not considered safe for individuals with coeliac disease. While it's fascinating to hear anecdotes from other coeliacs who can drink it without immediate issues, this is a risky exception rather than the rule. The core issue is that Guinness is brewed from barley, which contains gluten, and the standard brewing process does not remove the gluten protein to a level safe for coeliacs (below 20ppm). For someone like you who experiences dermatitis herpetiformis, the reaction is particularly significant. DH is triggered by gluten ingestion, even without immediate gastrointestinal symptoms. So, while you may not feel an instant stomach upset, drinking a gluten-containing beer like Guinness could very well provoke a flare-up of your skin condition days later. It would be a gamble with a potentially uncomfortable and long-lasting consequence. Fortunately, there are excellent, certified gluten-free stouts available now that can provide a safe and satisfying alternative without the risk.

      Before being diagnosed coeliac I used to love Guinness. Being made from barley it should be something a coeliac shouldn’t drink. But taking to another coeliac and they can drink it with no ill effects and have heard of others who can drink it too.  is this everyone’s experience?  Can I drink it?  I get dermatitis herpetiformis and don’t get instant reactions to gluten so can’t try it to see for myself.

      NCGS does not cause damage to the small bowel villi so, if indeed you were not skimping on gluten when you had the antibody blood testing done, it is likely you have celiac disease.

      I will assume you did the gluten challenge properly and were eating a lot of gluten daily for 6-8 weeks before your test, but if not, that could be the issue. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS.
