Alcohol Senstivity/intolerance/issues?

Hi all,

I tried cooking this week with wine for the first time. Very yummy. But, I think it may be causing me issues. I am having some tummy symptoms and am wondering if it is related to this new cooking technique. I haven't had anything else new in my diet this week, so I doubt I was glutened - though I guess you can never rule out contamination. Does anyone have a sensitivity/intolerance/allergy to alcohol or sulfites? What are the typical symptoms for you? Atlhough I do drink a glass or two of wine on the weekends, it is usually at home and late in the evening, so I haven't noticed much in the way of issues there, though I may be falling asleep before they hit. Just hoping I am not experiencing another gluten set back.

Thanks for the help.

I have no problems with wine or sulphites.

If the wine hasn't bothered you before, then you may have got glutened or you may be reacting to something else, like dairy. I developed a dairy intolerance at about the same time and some of my symptoms are similar to my gluten reaction symptoms. I would double check all the ingredients that you are cooking with, and make sure that you are using separate condiment jars.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am dairy, egg, and corn free as well. My husband (not gluten-free and thinks I am overly sensitive) sometimes helps with cooking or washing dishes. However, I don't think he is as aware as he needs to be and the source of contamination in any cooking likely resulted from him (ex. Me "Did you wash your hands before starting to cook?" Him - evil look. etc, etc, etc). Going to be a household full of thrills for years to come, I can see it now. <_< I guess I will have to spend the rest of my life in the kitchen cooking and cleaning and never getting any help. This disease is soooo freaking frustrating!!!!

My tummy feels better now and I know I was glutened last week by a hair product, so it could have been left overs from that.......so possibly a false alarm.

I can't handle red wine - severe allergic reaction, even if cooked in food. Sucks as my hubby makes WONDERFUL sauces (ex sous chef)

You might try Heallix.  It's a silver solution with fulvic acid. I just put the solution on with a cotton ball.  It seemed to stop the nerve pain. Again,  not in your eyes or ears.   Go to heallix.com to read more about it and decide for yourself Also,  I do think nerve and celiac combined have a lot to do with your susceptibility to shingles breaking out.

Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease. But if you don't have the genes, the symptoms are likely being caused by something else.

Yes, i pulled raw ancetry data and saw i have 2/3 markers for DQ2.2 but have heard from friends in genetics that this raw data can be wildly innacurate

Thanks, I’m still dealing with the pain and tingling and itching and feeling like bugs or something crawling around on my face and scalp. It’s been a miserable experience. I saw my eye doc last week, the eye itself was okay, so they didn’t do anything. I did take a 7 day course of an antiviral. I’m hoping for a turnaround soon! My life is full of stress but I have been on / off the gluten free diet for the last year , after being talked into going back on gluten to have a biopsy, that looked okay. But I do have positive antibody levels that have been responsive  to a gluten free diet. I can’t help but wonder if the last year has caused all this.

I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. Ultimately there is no substitution for learning to read labels. The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
