Hi! I'm new to the board and I've just found out I'm allergic to wheat products and other things. I'm a bit overwhelmed looking through boxes, cans and recipes trying to find anything that doesn't contain gluten. I need true & tried recipes that taste good. Thanks christine (internetnut)

Scroll down to the bottom of this page. Click on Forums, lots will pop up, then click on the " Gluten Free Cooking and Recipe Forum". I am so computer illiterate that I don't know how to cut and paste, the girls have been trying to teach me for years. (Guess I just don't want to learn, it the reason). It's easy, even I can do it. Good luck. Let me know, and we can get someone else to help you find it. (or cut and paste for you.)

Hopefully by now you have read through a few pages of new recipes. I am new here and I am trying to read through that section and there are LOTS of ideas there.

As another new person trying to figure this whole thing out I suggest that you work on meals with plain cooked meats (no sauce, grilled or baked maybe) and lots of fruits and veggies. You can figure out the baking and gluten free breads as you go along. There are lists of brands of foods that promise to disclose any ingredients and that makes it easier to check for gluten. Good luck and ask for help if you need something and can't find it.

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
