Thanks nvsmom and janpell.

I usually feel my best when I haven't eaten for several hours. I'm on a mission to gain weight though, so I've been eating as often as possible. Usually when I finish a meal, I feel it in the wrists first. Some days are better than others, but the popping is always there even on the good days. I've gotten to the point that I don't expect answers, but I still hope for them. :)

I know this is an old post but I'm having very similar issues. I'm 37 going on 38 and didn't have anything beside ankles cracking until this summer. Now it's knees, shoulders, just when turning my steering wheel, neck, back, hip, wrist, all popping and cracking a lot. Also have joint and muscle pain. I've been to numerous specialist and they can't find a cause. I'm wondering if it could be gluten. Have you had any change with this?

There are links between osteoporosis and celiac disease. I would brush up on all of the secondary effects of untreated celiac disease and find a doctor who will test you for osteoporosis as well as the other major diseases that are linked from an unaltered diet of someone suffering with celiac.

Hi, I'm also having the same symptoms - joint popping and muscle twitching. It was limited to ankles first and then has spread to full body (both the twitching and joint popping). I started having dandruff too. Not only me but both my parents, brother and a new born.. everyone caught this AT THE SAME TIME!! I'm thinking if it could be related to parasites. There are no other symptoms otherwise. Had some tests done but nothing comes up.

Can any of you guys please update me on this?

Thank you!!

Welcome to Celiac.com Popeye. This is an older topic so you might want to start a fresh one to avoid confusion. Having said that you should look at diet or environmental changes. Are you and your family eating gluten or been tested for Celiac Disease? The symptoms could fit the profile. Palmitic Acid is an omega 6 that is added to feed to increase production, notably in dairy and beef. Are you eating a western style diet? Is is unnaturally high in omega 6 and very inflammatory.

A good source of omega-6 fatty acids, every slice of whole wheat bread contains a total of 0.4 grams of omega-6. In addition, a large portion of the omega-6 in whole wheat bread comes from linolenic acid - the only essential omega-6 fatty acid.   https://www.soupersage.com/nutrition-calories-protein/whole-wheat-bread

Let me hasten to add that if you will be undergoing an endoscopy/biopsy, it is critical that you do not begin efforts to reduce gluten beforehand. Doing so will render the results invalid as it will allow the small bowel lining to heal and, therefore, obscure the damage done by celiac disease which is what the biopsy is looking for.

That’s a really tough situation. A few key points: as mentioned, a gluten challenge does require daily gluten for several weeks to make blood tests meaningful, but negative tests after limited exposure aren’t reliable. Dermatitis herpetiformis can also be tricky to diagnose unless the biopsy is taken from normal-looking skin next to a lesion. Some people with celiac or DH don’t react every time they’re exposed, so lack of symptoms doesn’t rule it out. Given your history and family cancer risk, this is something I’d strongly discuss with a celiac-experienced gastroenterologist or dermatologist before attempting a challenge on your own, so risks and benefits are clearly weighed.

https://celiac.org/glutenexposuremarkers/    yes, two hours after accidents ingesting gluten I am vomiting and then diarrhea- then exhaustion and a headache. see the article above- There is research that shows our reactions.

Concerning the EMA positive result, the EMA was the original blood test developed to detect celiac disease and has largely been replaced by the tTG-IGA which has a similar reliability confidence but is much less expensive to run. Yes, a positive EMA is very strong evidence of celiac disease but not foolproof. In the UK, a tTG-IGA score that is 10x normal or greater will often result in foregoing the endoscopy/biopsy. Weaker positives on the tTG-IGA still trigger the endoscopy/biopsy. That protocol is being considered in the US but is not yet in place.
