Biopsy Tomorrow....finally!

After 2 months of being back on gluten my son's biopsy day has finally arrived. They are doing biopsies of the esophagus, stomach, and the duodenum to check for EE, EG, and celiac. My son did ok on his gluten challenge but we did have a huge difference (for the worse) in his attitude and behavior, as well as zero growth and increased frequency and severity of his headaches. I am so ready to see if GI can figure out what is going on!

Good luck!  Make sure they take at least six samples.

Let us know how it goes.

They are supposed to be doing 2-4 each from the esophagus and stomach and 6-8 from the duodenum.

I will update you guys this afternoon when we get home.

We are finally home. The GI doc said it will take 7-14 days to get the biopsy results back. He did say that the duodenum and stomach looked good but also stated that looks don't mean anything until we get the biopsy results back. He did say there was some swelling and redness in the esophagus but he didn't see any real indication of it being caused by GERD. He biopsied that portion as well.

Fingers crossed we get some answers.

If you have been on a gluten-free diet for four years, all of the testing with the exception of the HLA one, was a waste of time. Not sure why your physician would have even considered it.  But that doesn't explain your ongoing celiac-like symptoms. It's beginning to look like they are being caused by some other medical issues unrelated to a gluten disorder.

Thanks for the insight!  It has been a whirlwind...very overwhelming and frustrating at times.  But what you are saying makes sense to me. I have been on a Gluten Free diet for 4 years now Its been suggested to me to get a second opinion

      THANKS again!!!

Sorry for rambling on so much. It was not clear to me from you first post that, although you have known for several years that gluten had been causing you distress, that you had already eliminated it from your diet.

Because a close friend has had Celiac for years - I've eliminated gluten after the ER said all I had was a huge pocket of gas several years ago.  The gluten will be my 4th autoimmune disease.  Thanks so much for all your input!!!
