I'm always substituting stuff in recipes, and discovered that often when wine is called for

it's because of it's acidic nature. I often use orange juice in place of vinegar or wine.

Anyone else have recipes where you have done this?

Wine should be ok to drink and use in recipes since it is made from grapes. I'm pretty sure that all wines would be gluten free unless gluten is added somehow.

Since I don't use any alcohol anyway, I'd either use some sort of juice, or just leave it out altogether. It depends on what I'm making.

Some substitutes that seem like they'd work in place of wine are:

palmogranite juice

cranberry juice

grape juice

lemon juice

lime juice

orange juice

Certain combinations of these might work too. I'm sure there are other juices that could work depending on the recipe. I like fruit flavors for muffins and stuff anyway.

I am glad there are subsitutes. While wine is gluten-free, I do no drink/cook/consume alcohol in any form.

Cranberry-grape juice has that twang that wine carries but without the strong taste of cranberry juice or the alcohol of wine.

      Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

      I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

      Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
