Probiotic and enzymes giving false negative on blood test?

Noel James

My doctor suggested I have DH. He sent me for blood work that has come back negative for celiac decrease.  I ate gluten based food prior to the test but also kept taking probiotics and digestive enzymes.  I am wondering if I could get a false negative because of this. I have researched DH and it seems to fit with the skin rash I have.

The only way to diagnoses DH is With a skin biopsy.  Sometimes people with DH do not test positive on blood tests.

Very important Noel James...... if the dermatologist takes the biopsy ON the lesion you will get a negative because that is the WRONG way to take a dh biopsy. Make sure they do it correctly. Be prepared to fight for a dh biopsy because I can just about guarantee you the derm will say it's this, it's that, it's the other & prescribe creams & lotions & pills & potions that won't do a bit of good and prolong your suffering if you do indeed have dh. Also DO NOT take oral steroids or steroid shots for 2 months prior to a dh biopsy. As with ALL celiac testing, you need to remain on a gluten diet until the biopsy has been performed.

Good luck & let us know how it goes!

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
