Sunscreen, body lotions, etc. with gluten?

Hi there.  I was just about to order my usual and favorite sunscreen since it's on sale.  I noticed the website has a gluten-free section (It's Badger) and it says their sunscreen has gluten.  Does anyone know if we need to avoid these types of topical skin care products?  I will be so upset, since this is my favorite sunscreen.  I have photosensitivity, so use a lot of sunscreen, and Badger seems to be a safe brand, and I really like their lavender sunscreen for body, and tinted rose sunscreen for face.  Since it's not going into my tummy, only being absorbed on my skin, would it be okay to use products with gluten?  I know some things can soak into skin and get into the bloodstream, but I didn't think sunscreen did.  Anyone have any experience using topical lotions with gluten and being okay?

I don't buy anything contains gluten anymore . It makes me itch.Even if it doesn't make you itch, you may accidentally touch to area with  suncreen (or lotion) then touch to your food or mouth . Just to be safe, don't buy it anymore.  Andalou naturals, most products of Sante , Logona  are gluten free ( check the label always,it has to say gluten free dont buy it otherwise ) Also check your country's celiac association's page.

A few things to consider.......gluten of any kind cannot be absorbed into the skin as the molecule is too large.  I know some people have trouble with this concept but it's a science that is well understood.  I do not worry about anything that goes onto my body except for my hands and lips.  It is still OK to use a product that is not labeled as gluten-free on your face but you should take care to avoid your mouth area when applying.  If that makes you feel uncomfortable, then use a labeled gluten-free sunscreen.  And ALWAYS wash hands well after applying  any sunscreen or make-up, etc. as eating these things is not recommended, whether gluten free or not.

Secondly, the most common ingredient that many mistake as a problem is Vitamin E (tocopherols), which can be used in sunscreen.  See the article below on that.  It is an older article but still is considered correct information for Celiac's.  Can you list the ingredients from the sunscreen that you like?  I always read the ingredients list because sometimes manufacturers get their info wrong on what is actually gluten-free or not.

FYI...I have been gluten-free for 12 years, a diagnosed Celiac.  I never screen make-up EXCEPT that which is used on my hands and lips.  I have never been glutened by any product or had any problems. It's not that hard to be careful if you really love a product.  ;)

Some info I found on their website......Open Original Shared Link  Look at the Frequently Asked Questions at the bottom.  There is a disclaimer about the gluten-free status and it's the usual one you see when companies are just trying to cover their butts. And yes, it looks like they use tocopherols in their product and that might very well be the "questionable" ingredient that is considered safe

I would use this product without any reservations but just make sure you wash your hands after applying.  No one wants sunscreen in their food!

Thanks for the info.  I think I'll go ahead and order it while it's still on sale and just be aware if I notice any problems with it.  Good reminder to always wash hands too, and I don't tend to put the facial sunscreen near my lips.  Thanks for that link.  I had not even seen that on their website yet. I saw a page about gluten-free products and it made it sound like their sunscreen had gluten.  Now I see it's just they won't certify that it is gluten-free since where they get the ingredients does not.  I think it's definitely worth trying.

Thanks!

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
