Deep fryer cleaning

My family is pretty new to gluten-free diet, and I’ve done all the kitchen purging and replaced all my pans etc. One thing I’m not sure about though.... is there a way to clean my deep fryer so I can keep it? I just want to be able to make my celiac son some home made fries

Unsure, does it go above 500F? Need 500F to destroy the gluten protein, like in a oven self clean cycle...my concern would be all the tiny hatches etc on the baskets, the covers etc.....honestly I would get a new one. In the mean time Ore Ida makes gluten free fries, hashbrowns, hashbrown patties etc. I serve them to guest and when I need a side of fries or hashbrowns when cooking for others. I personally use one of those oven air frying racks.

yep, as soon as i suspected i had celiac i called him to tell him he’s way more likely to have it bc he’s my sibling + bc of t1d being autoimmune. he has been to the ER so many times bc of unexplained stomach pain, so fingers crossed gluten free continues to help him! thank you for the info about the vitamins, i will pass along the info!!

@jenniber, Your brother can get a genetic test to look for Celiac genes.  You don't need to eat gluten for a genetic test.   Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that is associated with Celiac Disease.   Thiamine B1 insufficiency is frequently found Diabetes.  I have Diabetes and Celiac myself.  Supplementing with essential vitamins and minerals is helpful to ensure our bodies get the nutrients needed to heal and repair damage from gluten, as well as deal with Diabetes.  I take Benfotiamine, A form of thiamine Vitamin B 1, that has been shown to promote intestinal healing, and improves Diabetes. Thiamine, Niacin B 3, Pyridoxine B 6, and the other essential vitamins will help your body make digestive enzymes such as Sucrase and Lactase in the stomach,  pancreas and digestive system.  (Disaccharidase deficiency, my foot!) Ditto to what the others have said. All the evidence suggest you have celiac disease. But @Lizie, why are you asking this question at this point in time? There are some implicit questions raised by what you have told us so far. 1. Were you given a diagnosis of celiac disease back in the fall of 2023? 2. If you were given a diagnosis of celiac disease back then, did you undertake a strict gluten free diet or did you just ignore the diagnosis? 3. Are you asymptomatic? When you consume gluten, do you not have reactions? Is this why you question whether or not you actually have celiac disease?

@Tobo, Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?  Do you currently take a multivitamin or other vitamins or supplements?  Amitriptyline is one of the medications I was  prescribed.  Amitriptyline is one of the drugs that can cause thiamine insufficiency by blocking thiamine uptake and preventing thiamine from entering cells.  Fatigue, drowsiness, are symptoms of thiamine insufficiency.  Thiamine is Vitamin B1, one of the essential vitamins our bodies need every day.   Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/
