Hi,

I went to see my dermatologist today to get a biopsy of what she suspects to be DH on my elbows. She freaked me out because she said that if the test is positive my diet will be very restricted since I am a Vegetarian.  She advised me to get a nutritionist.  My question is should I also ask my PCP for a referral to a gastroenterologist as well, if I indeed do have Celiac? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

If the DH test is positive then you have celiac disease.  There is no need for a gastro to do an endoscopy in that case.

People with celiac have to avoid wheat, rye and barley.  It's best to avoid dairy and oats for a few months also.

The other thing that helps people recover from DH is avoiding iodine.  So that can eliminate some additional foods.

Thank you so much. I'm new to all of this and I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

If you are a vegetarian & adamantly opposed to changing that then yes, you're going to have a harder row to hoe than most of us & a nutritionist versed in celiac would be a great idea.

Did she take the biopsy ON a lesion or did she take it on clear skin ADJACENT to an active lesion?

She took one of the lesion and one adjacent.  My PCP also ordered a Celiac panel today after my positive ANA. Just a battery of tests this month. Hoping to know something soon.

The one taken adjacent is the only one done properly for a dh biopsy.

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
