Has anyone here ever had a bad experience with Dapsone?  I think I am either allergic to it or at least having a sensitivity to it as my rash has gotten even worse just 2 days into taking it.

Are you eating completely gluten free?  I am not sure how many days it takes to start working.  Maybe that is a good question for your doctor?

Foods high in iodine can make DH rash flare.  Avoid shellfish, idolized salt and dairy products.

Dapsone contains sulfur.  Some Celiacs develop a sensitivity to Sulfites and other forms of sulfur.  Here's an article that explains it.

http://www.thepatientceliac.com/tag/celiac-disease-and-sulfite-intolerance/

I have a hypersensitivity to sulfur containing compounds and can't use Dapsone or other sulfa medications.   I need to avoid gluten, shellfish, idolized salt, seaweed, and dairy.

DH is sometimes associated with vitamin B12, iron, or folate deficiencies.  Some Celiacs have a MTHFR gene mutation and require the methylated form of B12 and methylfolate.

Hope this helps.

One of the side effects of Dapsone is a skin rash. See:

Numerous people with dh who have taken Dapsone have had unacceptable side effects from taking Dapsone & some of those were rash.

I have been using Jamaiican Black Castor Oil on my DH. It stops the itching and burning instantly and is starting to clear up.  I will not take Dapsone.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
