Citric Acid Intolerance

It has taken me years to finally THINK I know what is going on with me. I have a citric acid intolerance. I am seeing a skin specialist because of the excruciating itching. She said to test it by eating alot of the culprit (I used organic lemonade) and see what happens. Well I was so itchy last night and this morning there is barely any skin left on my arms. I took an antihistamine as soon as the symptoms got bad, but this morning they started up again. I have taken a second antihistamine though the package says no more than 1 in 24 hours. I managed to get an appt with the Dr in a couple of hours. The cream she had me buy did nothing to help the itching. Does anyone else get itchy skin from eating citric acid?

Not me.  But there is a skin rash called DH (dermatitis herpetiformis) that people with celiac disease can get.

Is the itching just on your arms?  Maybe it is Bracheoradial Puruitis:

My doctor stated 4 slices of whole wheat bread for 4 weeks then take the blood work to diagnose. So I guess this is what I have to look forward to in the fall not to ruin summer plans with my family. I'm still confused on what the diagnose would tell me from the blood work. If it says Im gluten sensitive then I already know that from elimination diet and that won't help but how will the blood show vitamins I'm deficient in compared to my yearly physical blood work for vitamin results? Sorry I just get confused on what the blood results will tell me. If it's just to confirm gluten sensitivity then what good will that be as I've already eliminated gluten from my diet. Wouldn't adding gotten for 4 weeks just to confirm cause damage.

I have positive Ttg-IGA antibodies- and I have every time they have been checked. Also the antibodies do respond positively to a gluten free diet. However my biopsy showed no damage and my doc said it all looked okay in there. How does this happen and What does this mean??

I’ve got the patch, and then 100mg and says MFG XIROMED - is that generic manufacturer?  Pharmacist confirmed there’s no gluten, and im Not having celiac symptoms, just dermatitis herpetiformis symptoms, which is why I’m looking at hormone influence on inflammation/autoimmune issues writ large, and not looking at the gluten specifically.

Thank you for your message - essentially I have not been able to figure anything out on this front. From all I can find, and from people here have answered, then it is extremely unlikely that the progesterone should contain gluten. I have an endoscopy scheduled soon to see if there is damage, and to try and figure out what or where the issue stems from. I did have a stool test done, that did not contain gluten (while taking the progesterone pills).  So unfortunately I am still at a loss for answers.  Out of curiosity, which dose and manufacture of progesterone pills do you take?  I've tried both the 100mg and the 200mg progesterone pills, both from Aurobindo Pharm.

I’m curious where you’ve ended up with this journey? I’ve just started HRT for perimenopause, and have been having dermatitis herpetiformis symptoms, and even developed what seems to be a small patch of psoriasis (which I’ve not previously had)… basic googling has told me HRT can flare up some autoimmune diseases, including lupus and psoriasis, but dermatitis herpetiformis is not specifically mentioned.    so, I’m curious where you’ve ended up
