Gluten Free Restaurants

Hello.

My daughter and I are already finding it difficult to have the treat of eating somewhere when we are out. (I'm not strictly gluten free until after my biopsy this week, but I am doing this while I am out and about for her sake and for practice!). Anyway, it's not that we want to eat out all the time, but we would just like to have that option sometimes.  She is really noticing a problem when she is out with friends.  She went to IKEA where they said they had some gluten free dinner options, and she got a bad stomach ache afterwards.  She really feels it was from eating there.  She had said the woman who served her seemed really knowledgeable so she trusted it.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a teen who would just like to have that treat once in a while with friends? She did find that Five Guys has fries that she can enjoy once in a while when she is out. They cook them separate in a fryer, and there isn't gluten in them.  So at least she has one place so far for a small treat.  She also had a plain salad at Applebee's that didn't give her any problems, but sometimes she just doesn't want a salad.  Any ideas of places that you would consider pretty safe? Especially for a lunch out?

This really come down to locations, use the FindMeGluten Free app and see about places with good reviews from celiacs, and always inform your waiter, and perhaps talk to the manager. There is also the Nima Sensor a portable gluten test kit, if you get get a good sampling it works...but depends on what you order and the sample.  GlidenX can shorten symptoms...your still going to damage yourself but at least it shortens/minimizes the misery with CC issues.

I personally only eat at 2 places that are not 100% gluten free, I order certain items I have seen cooked and due to method are hard to CC. IE they roast fish and veggies on a conveyor oven on disposable foil sheets....and transfer to my plat. Or our local sushi restaurant uses JUST fish, no sauces and fix and cut it right in front of me.

There are also 100% dedicated gluten free restaurants, I run a catering business and bakery for gluten free myself. But sometimes I head to this 100% gluten free British pub in Dallas, that the owner knows his stuff as his children have the disease. There is also a 100% gluten and grain free cafe in San Antonio that I visited on vacation there.
Really is a bonus when you find one with a owner or manager that has celiac.

Oh for in home treats check these out.

I forgot to mention that exercise also triggers it, except for the period right before I tried the gluten challenge where I could do moderately intense workouts without getting this burning sensation and extreme fatigue for days afterwards.

Hello everyone, I am 30 years old, female, and have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and suspected celiac disease (wasn't able to complete a gluten challenge, but have the symptoms and HLA-DQ8) or at least some kind of gluten sensitivity. When I first got diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, I went on AIP and never reintroduced gluten. Whenever I would eat a little bit of gluten I would wake up feeling very old, achy, and unrested, with a burning sensation everywhere especially on my hip bones and chest area. It felt like severe inflammation. This would also happen during stressful times and times where I hadn't been sleeping well.  This symptom had decreased in intensity and completely gone away before I tried to do a gluten challenge over a month ago. Now it is back and I have it every day when I wake up. It usually goes away or decreases in intensity after a few hours of being awake. Is this inflammation or something else, and is it related to Hashimoto's thyroiditis or celiac (or gluten sensitivity) or both? Could it be related to not moving for long periods of time (as is the case when I am sleeping)? I was also extremely sensitive to all foods when I first started AIP about 3 or 4 years ago, but with time, I could tolerate more foods and even gluten in small amounts occasionally. Now my stomach is super sensitive, I am afraid to eat again, and my stools are abnormal. Thank you.

@MagsM Did your doctor do the DGP IgG and DGP IgA tests or the tTg IgG test.  It looks like he just tested total IgG.   Were you taking any medications or over the counter stuff before the test?  Some can suppress the immune system and cause false negatives.
