Hi everyone, I’m new here. I am currently waiting on my biopsy results but holy moly has life been rough lately. About 6 months ago my life turned upside down! Headaches rapid heart rate feeling like I’m looking through a cloud to anxiety and being afraid to drive/be in public to gas bloating burping and frequent stools much softer than normal. I guess I’m looking for similarities between any of you? Did it seem to come out of nowhere? Hind site I’ve had some GI issues all my life. But this extreme life altering state has been the last 6 months. It’s miserable! Has anyone else had this rapid heart beat and had a normal hemoglobin? My ferritin is low normal. But my bilirubin is always elevated and some excess fat around my liver (I’m a 26 year old NON alcoholic). Can anyone relate while I wait in this anxious mess?

Welcome!

Celiac disease has so many symptoms (over 200) and the ones you described could very well fit celiac disease.  Did you get a celiac blood screening test prior to your biopsy?  If your GI (or Dermatologist if you have Dermatitis Herpetaformis) went directly to biopsies, ask for the screening now before going gluten free as many things can destroy intestinal villi.

Anxiety and liver issues are very common in celiac disease and can resolve on the gluten free diet.  But a fatty liver can be attributed to a diet high in carbs/sugar.

Keep us posted of your results.  If celiac disease is ruled out, you many have Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity.  Trialing the gluten-free diet can resolve this too.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi,

I'm waiting for a diagnosis too so can't really comment on the coeliac side but I have low iron, ferritin and folate but my hemoglobin is "normal" but was on the bottom of the normal range last time, Anyway yes my heart rate has increased as I started to feel worse.

Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!

Welcome @Martha Mitchell, I too would like to know more about your prior lenses, and especially about the potential of gluten in lenses. In theory this should not harm most celiacs, as the autoimmune reaction normally begins in the gut, however, in those who are super sensitive or have dermatitis herpetiformis it may be a potential issue.

It's most likely going to be a celiac disease diagnosis based on your blood test results, but wait for your doctor to give you a green light for going gluten-free, as they may want to do additional testing. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
