Root Beer And Sour Cream Ok Or Not?

I have only just begun to eat gluten free but already my stomach is feeling better (after only 25 yrs)! The information my doctor gave me about this diet is very non-specific, though, and some of the information on the web is contradictory. I have two specific questions. I LOVE rootbeer but all the information I've seen says is "some rootbeers". WHICH rootbeers, please? Can I have Barq's? Also I love sour cream but again, the lists say "some contain wheat". What brands are safe? If anyone knows this, I'd love to hear from you! Thank you so much.

I don't know about the root beer, but with sour cream, the issue is usually non-fat or low-fat sour creams. They can add fillers to help with the consistency. Check the labels, of course, but most full-fat sour creams should be gluten-free. (Of course, if you're having issues with diary, they're a no-no...)

It is normal to have a lot of questions and that is what we are all here for. Here is a great website that list some gluten-free food.

As you ennter the site you will see "food list", click on that and it sorts them by category.

tarnalberry is right about the sour cream, here are some safe brands from a list I have: Blue Bunny, Kemps, Meijer, Tillamook, Breakstone (regular only). From what I read on the website above and according to another list I have they both say Barq's rootbeer is safe.

I hope this helps. :)

If you are in doubt about the rootbeer and you like Barq's call the company. As for sour cream, I think the main issue in sour cream is the food starch because they can make it from either corn or wheat. So again the best bet would be to call the company or email the company you normally use.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks, I had wondered about the Barq's rootbeer also. Granny

Thanks so much. I'm glad to know I can still have a few of my favorites! -tg

Rootbeer and sour cream!

Reminds me of milk and Pepsi from Laverne and Shirley! :D

I guess if you like it....

Just kidding!

Daisy brand sour cream is gluten-free (877 292-9830). So is Blue Sky rootbeer (without preservatives, additives, artificial colors, flavors and caffeine). Open Original Shared Link

Enjoy!

The celiac.com's list of gluten-free items includes A&W Rootbeer. I drink it frequently. Just another option for you.

My wife drinks A&W (the colouring isnt from a gluten source) and I can say its safe.

She's not brave enough to try Mug, so I guess I'll look that up too

Mug, A&W, Barq's, Stewart's, and Hires are all gluten-free.

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

I’m so glad they listened to your concerns!  I hope you get some answers from the MRI.

Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
