York Labs - Still Functioning?

Has anyone gotten anything out York Labs in the past few weeks? I ordered the cdScan in December and haven't gotten it yet - they charged my CC the day of the order. This is the home testing kit, all they have to do is put it in a box and send it to me.

I've called a few times over the past week and each time was told that the computers were down and they'd have to take my number and call me back. They never do. One time the woman even said, "I'm only the book-keeper and nobody else is here". I emailed a few days ago and haven't heard anything from that either.

Are they still functioning? Fighting off bankrupcy?

You know, a year ago I had an allergy panel run by them and instead of the promised 2 weeks for results it took 3 MONTHS and more than a few phone calls from me, and then absolutely ZERO phone support afterwards, which they promise a year of result-interpretation help afterwards. I also tried to run a celiac test (the older version) for my son, TWICE, and each time was sent back because they messed up the sample.

Good luck. If you really want the test, keep bugging them. If you have another way, ask your cc co. to refund the $$$.

Yikes - thanks for the feedback. I think I'll bug them for another week (I really do want the test), and then start looking into ways to get a refund.

Claire,

Is the lab a home-test kit, or one your doctor must send in?

Some Naturopathic doctors will handle this for you but you can arrange it yourself.

You ask your doctor or PA for a written order for the test you want. Fax this or mail to the lab with insturctions for what test you want and mailing info. They will send you a test kit which you take to the hospital lab or any reputable lab in your area. They will draw the samples and put them in the vials provided. Some labs will mail for you. Others may give you back the package to mail.

In a couple of weeks you will get test results, a laminated card with the results to carry with you or have as a reminder. Reactive foods will be scored 1-5 (I think 5 is highest - I have 4+). There will be a doctor associated with your test and you can talk with him by phone - email too no doubt. That is helpful.

Your insurance company may well cover the test - provided the doctor orders it.

Warning: these tests are subject to false positives. I had about 5 out of 30 which isn't bad.

If you see a food on the reactive list and you have doubts - put that or those foods to a challenge.

Eliminate the food for two weeks. Reintoduce the food for a week. If you have no bad reactions in a week keep that food in your diet and go on to test another. If you have a reaction to a food, eliminate it and do not test another one for two weeks.

This has worked well for me. I have had several tests done there over a 15 year period. They are good people to work with.

If you have further questions, send me a PM. Good luck. Claire

I also had great luck with Great Plains Labs. They do a slew of tests, some insurance companies will cover testing and they have a biochemist/dietician who will go through results with you.

I ordered the York celiac disease test back in October - my cc was charged 10/26. I finally got the kit last week, after many calls, emails, etc. I had heard that they were out and were waiting for a new shipment in Nov., but when I called and talked to them in mid Dec., they said they had just gotten their new supply and were shipping them out. It STILL took well over a month before I got mine. I think they did get more orders than expected, and are having problems meeting the demand, but if that's the only problem, they need to tell people and give them some idea of when the tests will be in stock again.

I'm very happy with the Enterolab test. I got the test materials about 3 days after ordering, I got the results in 2 weeks, and I'm getting very prompt replies...within a day or two....for all my result interpretation questions. I would NOT use York labs given what I've heard about it.

York finally got back to me. The woman on the phone was very nice, said they have had a lot of orders and are still waiting on test kits to come from England. She said they would call when the kit came in and shipped (guessed 1-2 weeks).

I agree with Debbie, I don't necessarily mind that somethings take a little while to get in stock (we've all been spoiled by Amazon!), but good communication of the situation is important.

I ordered the Entero test on the same day as the York test, I'm guessing I'll get the results from that back before I even get the York test!

Oh, and thanks to everyone who posted alternatives. I'll check them out once I get my Enterolab results - at the very least I think I may be allergic/intolerant to corn and potatoes too.

I get canker sores one hour after eating Oats, and pimples in my butt.

Body dysmorphia experience. When I was at the worst of my gluten problem I use to get chronic constipation; I would spend long time sitting on the toilet. One day as I was tired of sitting, I rested my head on my hands and my elbows on my knees, as soon as I felt the pressure of my elbows on my knees the perception of my body changed to that of a tarantula; I visualized and it felt real. The perception went away as soon as I removed the pressure on my knees, I deducted that the pressure of my elbows on the knees caused the sensation, so I repeated the position and the sensation of having the body of a tarantula happened each time. I have not had that experience since then because I started a gluten-free diet short after. I wonder if those people that look distorted to themselves in the mirror could have something similar but with the responsible sensory contacts located on their feet. I want to document this experience because it might help some research or others, it sounds crazy but I feel the right thing to do is to share it.

Get tested for vitamin deficiencies.  Though neuropathy can be a symptom of celiac, it can also be caused by deficiencies due to poor digestion caused by celiac and could be easier to treat.

Thank you so much for your response  Yes it seems as though things get very painful as time goes on.  I'm not eating gluten as far as I know.  However, I'm not sure of cross contamination.  My system seems to weaken to hidden spices and other possibilities. ???  if cross contamination is possible...I am in a super sensitive mode of celiac disease.. Neuropathy from head to toes
