Nuts!-some Nuts Are With Flour Grrrr!

I travel as part of my work. I have often taken a container of mixed nuts along when on the road just in case I passed on a meal due to gluten concerns. Anyway this became quite a habit over time. Being a prudent spender I rationalized once that purchasing bags of cooking nuts and then mixing them and bagging them seemed like a less expensive alternative to purchasing containers of mixed eating nuts. Anway I was surprised when I got really ill from the nuts. In my whole celiac experience I have never been so sick. I could barely sit my bum got so inflamed and sore.

Turns out that cooking nuts sometimes have flour put on them (nothing on the label). I presume it is used to soak up the natural oils when salt is not used as is the case in eating nuts. Needless to say I only buy the salted ones now!

Can you name a brand for us? That would be helpful.

Which nuts were you reacting to? I've eaten Planters nuts with no problems.

The nuts were not peanuts. They were 1 lb. bags of walnuts, peacans, hazelnuts and almonds. I do not recall the brand names. I purchased them at a large big box bulk store called Costco! I don't know if all of them had flour or just one of them. I got sick on the blend. When I inquired I was told that when salt is not used they put flour on to soak up residual oils

Some types of peanuts use flour in them, too. The little bags my bank gives away states that wheat is used in the coating on the peanuts.

I didn't know that companies did that! Thanks for letting us know.

If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.

No I haven't had one since 2021. I rarely have more than 1 per week.

Sorry, I see that now as I reread your original post. You say you have hemorrhoids "only once a week" now. When I develop hemorrhoids, which is once every few years now, it generally takes 3-4 days for healing to take place. So, it doesn't seem like you could have much relief time between episodes if you have them weekly. Have you had a lower GI scoping done recently?

Everyday I eat a medium to large apple in the morning and a large banana at night. I eat a cup of oatmeal in the evening. The ezekiel wheat bread I eat has a good amount of fiber. I haven't dealt with constipation for at least a year. Most of the time my feces are soft.
