what about Bragg's Amino Acids? I've heard people using that instead of soy sauce...

oh never mind, it is made from soybeans too... darn

lorka150 Collaborator

Fish sauce. It's interchangable in most recipes.

ebrbetty Rising Star

really? never had it, does it taste like fish? what brand do you like?

I want it to replace the soy sause I use for chicken and a rice dish

lorka150 Collaborator

Soy sauce is often used for the saltiness. It does taste fishy, but not too much.

I use Thai Kitchen becasue they clearly label their products. It's gluten/dairy/soy free.

ebrbetty Rising Star

thank you, I'll try it

do you ever use it on chicken or rice?

Bonnie Explorer

Have you tried Oyster Sauce. IMO it tastes much better than soy sauce. It is absolutely delicious on chicken or beef!

i've used it in asian inspired chicken and rice dishes, yes.

ebrbetty Rising Star

I thought Oyster Sauce has soy in it?

i've used it in asian inspired chicken and rice dishes, yes.

thanks again, I'll get some this week, I mainly use it [soy] on chicken and a rice dish I make with garlic, red onion and broccoli mixed in..but the last couple times I had the soy my belly was not happy

On the Thai Kitchen website, Open Original Shared Link , it says this:

"FISH SAUCE, THAI KITCHEN PREMIUM

Use in place of salt or soy sauce to season almost any savory dish or stir-fry. Although the flavor will not be as robust, you can substitute with soy sauce. "

They also have some yummy recipes on there. I don't really own any prepackaged anything, but the few condiments in my fridge are all this brand.

Let me know how it turns out. :)

ebrbetty Rising Star

lol thats what I'm doing right now, they do have some nice recipes. I noticed a rice dish somewhat like mine. I just hope its not spicy

I may finally buy the noodles, I always pick them up at whole foods, then put them back cause I have no idea what to do with them

thanks for the help, can't wait to try it

Yes some oyster sauce brands have soy in them but I have found one without! Its delicious. Not sure if you can get it over there though - I live in the back of beyond!!

Oyster sauce is a good option. You can find it here in most grocery stores. Not sure about how many gluten-free/soy free ones are out there, though. I'm sorry the soy sauce subst. didn't work out for you. Maybe as a last resort, you could try low sodium beef broth and use brown sugar instead of molasses, if you can't find anything else that tastes ok. Good luck and happy cooking! Don't you find that some of these challenges are sometimes a little fun experimenting? :) Let us know how it turns out for you, Asian food sounds so yummy right now to me and it is not even lunch time yet!!!

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶
