I just found this Gluten free parrot food.. I'm getting a new parrot soon and was going to mix my own gluten free seed and grains but this is better....      do the ingredients look totally gluten free?

" In addition, we’ve excluded gluten-based grains such as corn, wheat and other controversial ingredients such as soybean and soy oils. "

As someone with a Celiac partner having gluten free versions of pet food is critical. Most of the ingredients in other more notable bird food brands (Zupreem and Harrisons) all have wheat as the main ingredient despite most parrot species never eating wheat plants in the wild. FM Brown's food is a more well rounded pellet that still provides vitamin enrichment and are pressed and shaped like other pellets for birds like mine who like to make birdy soup

Gluten-Free pet foods are getting more popular. Dogs and cats should not eat gluten...we just did a review on a GF dog food:

Awol cast iron stomach Experienced

I took my cats gluten-free. I feed my cats grain free. The dry foods are grain free and dedicated lines. The wet food they prefer is grain free by ingredients, but not  labeled as such as it is not a dedicated line. The wet food company makes a variety some of which contain grain.

I was grateful to the worker who patiently walked me through my detailed questions years ago. As I tried a few wet food grain free dedicated lines, but they just have a particular preferable/ match.

I am glad you found a food that matches your needs. Enjoy your new parrot.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
