Charley Brown's Steak House (chain) has a gluten free menu. I go to the one in Woodbridge Center Mall, Woodbridge NJ. I've never had a problem eating there and you can get the menu off their web site or in when you go into eat (just tell the person seating you that you need the gluten-free menu). I've never been glutened there, the chef's are very knowledgeable about us celiac's, and I trusted them many times. I highly reccoment the hibachi chicken and broccoli, with the gluten-free ice cream for desert!!

Hugs

Bridge

Ha--one day back and you tell me something I didn't know!!! We have a Charlie Brown's Steak House near us. We used to love to eat there--so glad to hear they have a gluten-free menu and they're well versed on the cooking. My husband is going to be so happy when I tell him this--I think it's been like 2 years since we've eaten there. Thanks Bridget :D

No problem...next time your around here we will do lunch! :)

I quit Charley Brown's too for a long time, but then I figured I'd take a shot and check into them and gluten...I was shocked to see the menu the first time I went on their web site. Now we go every couple weeks.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
