1 year gluten free...   ttg at 10...  dropped from 120's....  weak positive range. . normal 0 - 3..

haven't gained a pound since going gluten free..

I didn't really lose much weight before i was diagnosed and still eating gluten.. I only lost maybe 4 pounds....    I even gained 3 pounds while still eating gluten....

Then after going gluten free I lost like 7 pounds and haven't gained anything since....

So it's not clear from your post what your goal is, are you trying to gain more weight? If so, there are lots of higher calorie foods that can help.

fllstuart77 Explorer

i need to gain back 10 pounds  😔

Scott Adams Grand Master

A lot of people here have used gluten-free protein powder to help gain more muscle mass, which is heavier than fat. Adding more calories to your diet by snacking more often is another way that should help.

i tried that.. i used a vegan certified gluten free gainer.. 1,200 calories per serving..  i took it for a month..  didnt look it put a pound on me

After years of undiagnosed Celiac caused malabsorbtion, you may still be deficient in vitamins and minerals. Unless you focus on them it may take years to replenish. Here is an article that looks at vitamins as a cause of weight gain. It seems to be written for people who can't lose weight, but his list includes vitamins frequently seen in Celia Disease malabsorption syndromes. Vitamin A, B, C, and my favorite vitamin D.

If not too invasive, what is your BMI?

"vitamin fortification, intake of synthetic vitamins, and lessened vitamin elimination lead to quick weight gain." List Of Vitamins That Cause Weight Gain (sehat.com)   https://www.sehat.com/list-of-vitamins-that-cause-weight-gain

i had all my vitamins and minerals tested.. they were all normal

my BMI is normal...    I was just always 10 pounds heavier before this happened..

my BMI is 20.5

BMI Categories:
Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
Overweight = 25–29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

Looks good the way you are. Watch more TV reruns pre 1965 and set the screen aspect to 4:3 when appropriate. A 4:3 show watched on a 16:9 screen makes everyone fatter. Some stations adjust, some do not. Notice how skinny everyone looks compared to our current body image. Buy new clothes to fit your new image.

so you're saying i was actually over weight before 🤣

either way.. it doesn't explain why I cant gain any weight

Wheatwacked Veteran

Not at all. What you have now is something that many people are envious of. The holy grail of weight loss. It takes a while for your appistat to readjust. Maybe more fatty foods like avocado. When I was younger I could out eat everyone and not gain weight. A properly operating digestive system will take what you need and leave the rest.

Two more things you might try. 60 grams (2 oz) almonds has 100% rda of vitamin E and 347 calories. One tsp Cod Liver Oil fulfills all your vitamin A and has omega 3 at 40 calories.

I eat a huge tablespoon of almond butter every single morning for breakfast along with some 2 large bananas ....     and drink Silk almond milk during the day...

I might just not be healed yet enough to be gaining...   my celiac was still technically on at my last blood test even at only 10 antibody level...

My doctor said he has patents coming back in 15 pounds overweight after healing

that aint me

      I was tested back in 2017 and my TTG-IGA was mildly elevated (an 11 with reference range <4) but my EMA was negative and biopsy was negative. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago where I was like y'know what, I still have so many symptoms and I'm always so sick, I should repeat this, thinking it was not going to be positive.  I also found out through 23 and me that I do have the HLA-DQ2.5 gene so I thought it would be good to repeat given my ongoing symptoms. Well my blood work came back with a ttg-iga level of 152.6 with a reference range of <15 and my EMA was positive and EMA titer was 1:10 with reference range of <1:5. I guess I'm nervous that I'm going to do the biopsy and it's going to be negative again, especially since I also had an endoscopy in 2020, not to look for celiac but just as a regular 5 year thing I do because of all my GI issues, and they didn't see anything then either. I have no idea how long the EMA has been positive but I'm wondering if it's very recent, if the biopsy will show damage and if so, if they'll say well the biopsy is the gold standard so it's not celiac? I of course am doing all the things to convince myself that it isn't real. Do a lot of people go through this? I think because back in 2017 my ttg-iga was elevated but not a huge amount and my EMA was negative and my biopsy was negative, I keep thinking this time it's going to be different. But this time my ttg-iga is 152.6 with reference range <15, and my EMA was positive. BUT, my titer is only 1:10 and I keep reading how most people here had a ttg-iga in the hundreds or thousands, and the EMA titer was much higher. So now I am convinced that it was a false positive and when they do the biopsy it'll be negative.

      Welcome to the forum, @linnylou73! Are you claiming this based on a reaction or based upon actual testing?

      This varies a lot from person to person. I include foods that are not certified gluten-free but are labelled "gluten-free", while super sensitive people only use certified gluten-free. Both types of products have been found to contain gluten, so there are no guarantees either way: It you are in the super sensitive group, eating a whole foods based diet where you prepare everything is the safest bet, but it's also difficult. Eating out is the the most risky, even if a restaurant has a gluten-free menu. I also include items that are naturally gluten-free, for example refried beans, tuna, pasta sauces, salsas, etc., which have a low overall risk of contamination.
