Did Pamela’s change their manufacturing protocol?

OK, I got really badly gluten bombed recently and am slowly healing from it. In the days leading up to it, I ate absolutely nothing different from what  always knew to be safe.  It never occurred to me to look at my new box of Pamela‘s graham crackers. I’ve been eating them for years. I looked at the back of the box and was stunned to see the words  “Manufactured in a facility on equipment that processes Peanuts, Tree Nuts, !!!WHEAT!!!, Coconut, Eggs, Soy and Milk.”

Am I high or is this a new thing? I could be mixed up but I thought they used to process in a dedicated gluten-free facility. After seeing this I did some research and saw that they were acquired by a different company. But this was well over a year ago. Now it’s been along time since I purchased a box of these so maybe I’m just out of the loop. Does anyone know?

I noticed the same on some cookies that looked really good. I always read labels because I also have to avoid soy. They were one of my favorite companies and I hate to have to give up their baking mix but can't take a risk. Gosh I wish companies wouldn't sell their names and formulas. The quality and safety always seems to go down.

Although I did see articles from 2019 - 2020 about the company change when I went googling for it yesterday, but saw nothing about their production procedures changing unless I missed it. Should've been doen in bold caps.

I always read labels which can get tedious. So in the rare circumstance I find a company who produces only gluten free products with a statement about their dedicated gluten-free facility and equipment, and whose products I've use for years, I tend to trust that I don't have to examine the box each time I reach for the brand. Lesson learned but disheartening.

It is one of my favorites. I found it at a time when I was learning how to walk normally...again and it was a good to think about on days when things hadn't gone well.

Answering my own question and leaivng it here in case other's were as clueless as I was abt Pamela's. After some teeth pulling, here is their 2nd reply (their 1st reply, which sidestepped my questions, also follows): 

"Annie – The Baking Mixes all continue to be made in a Gluten Free facility. All other Pamela’s Products were made in a gluten free facility at one point but are now made in a facility where wheat and other allergens are present.

We are GFCO certified (Gluten Free Certification Organization) a program of the GIG (Gluten Intolerance Group) and conduct frequent swab testing for gluten.  Pamela’s Products has a robust sanitation and allergen control program in place to prevent product cross contamination. Additionally, our facilities maintain a schedule that ensures our gluten-free products are processed during a completely different time frame than products containing wheat.

Pamela’s Products does have a statement on our boxes about the manufacturing of our products and that other allergens are present. We manufacture with allergens in mind, meaning that nuts are in recipes baked last. We follow excellent GMPs for allergy manufacturing and cleaning, and our staff is fully trained for baking with allergens.

Once again, we completely understand your concern and value this feedback so much.       Looking for help sourcing gluten-free products that do not contain potato or corn derived ingredients. I have other autoimmune conditions (Psoriatic Arthritis and Sjogrens) so I’m looking for prepared foods as I have fatigue and cannot devote a lot of time to baking my own treats.

      I am so sorry you're going through this. It's completely understandable to feel frustrated, stressed, and disregarded after such a long and difficult health journey. It's exhausting to constantly advocate for yourself, especially when you're dealing with so many symptoms and positive diagnoses like SIBO, while still feeling unwell. The fact that you have been diligently following the diet without relief is a clear sign that something else is going on, and your doctors should be investigating other causes or complications, not dismissing your very real suffering.

      It is just so sad that health care in the United States has come to this.  Health insurance should be available to everyone, not just the healthy or the rich.  My heart goes out to you.  I would not hesitate to have the test and pay for it myself.  My big concern would be how you could keep the results truly private.  I am sure that ultimately, you could not.  A.I. is getting more and more pervasive, and all data is available somewhere.  I don't know if you could give a fake name, or pay for your test with cash.  I certainly would not disclose any positive results on a private insurance application.  As I understand it, for an official diagnosis, an MD needs to review your labs and make the call.  If you end up in the ER, or some other situation, just request a gluten free diet, and say it is because you feel better when you don't eat gluten.      Hang in there, though.  Medicare is not that far away for you, and it will remove a lot of stress from your health care concerns.  You will even be able to "come out of the closet" about being Celiac!

      Yes, I've posted a few times about two companies: Request a Test and Ulta Labs. Also, pretty much we can all request any test we want (with the possible exception of the N protein Covid test and I'm sure a couple of others) with Lab Corp (or Pixel by Lab Corp) and Quest. I much prefer Lab Corp for their professionalism, ease of service and having it together administratively, at least in DC. And just so you know, Request a Test uses Lab Corp and Quest anyway, while Ulta Labs uses only Quest. Ulta Labs is cheaper than Request a Test, but I am tired of dealing with Quest, so I don't use them so much.

      PS - I think you meant this site, but I don't believe it has been updated in years: http://glutenfreedrugs.com/ so it is best to use: You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/
