A warning to you. If perchance you are a woman, and have to take Elmiron for Interstitial Cystitis. Be warned.

My Urologist told me to decease taking Elmiron immediaely (after taking it for Interstitial Cystitis for twenty-five years. There is  about 10, TEN CLASS ACTIONS agains this drug. A Class Action is not just TEN people, it is multipe people in each Class Action. They might distribute it to numerous law offices, in fact my para-legal daughter is working on one Class Action now for her firm.  It has been proven to cause Macular Degeneration, which can lead to blindness. It causes pain in your eyes and a tormented vision loss that can go on for several years. (You may have noticed several people wearing dark glasses and you wondering if they have had other eye surgeries done). But, when I went into the specialist that deals only with Macular Degeneration there were numerous people there, not for cataract surgery, or Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) or glaucoma. This specialist just sees Macular Degeneration patients, either dry Machular Degeneration or Wet Macular Degeneration.  I am not aware as to whether it has been taken off the market in Canada or the U.S.A. I was just told to go off it immediately, which caused a lot of urinary pain.  You think you have a bladder infection, but that proved normal, and obviously you do not think that a drug like Elmiron can be causing your vision loss,  specifically to the central eye and distinguishing colors. I know this is a Celiac Magazine, but that does not mean we should not be aware of a drug that can lead to blindness; we have enough to deal with with Celiac Disease and Dermatitis Herpetiformis.  There are several Vitamins on the market now that can help with the pain, one being LUTEINm and in Canada there are two prescription medications awaiting government approval. I believe it has aleady been approved for distribution in the U.S.A.., so since we have a Summer Home in Bellingham, WA, I am going to get my B.C. physician to write me a prescription so that I can get it down in the good old U.S.  of A. who are usually miles ahead of Canada.

Respectfully,

Vonnie Mostat, R.N.

Well, guess what, it is off the market in most THINKING Pharmacies that receive their notices.  Over 600 Class Actions against Elmiron in B. C. alone. That is  not just 600 pople, that is 600 class actions where they divide them between numerous law companies, one my daughter is a para-legal. They have two boxes to go through and research and phone on.  WONDER WHY MY TYPING HAS BEEN BAD?!  I cannot go from the laptop to the standard computer without suffering terrible errors. A week ago last Friday I was diagnosed with DRY MACULAR DEGENERATION attributable to Elmiron which I had been taking for 25 years. Needless to say, they were looking for people with diagnosed Macular Degeneration so my name is on the list.  Not really for money, but because I am angry.

My biggest concern now is the Gluten Ataxia.  That would be present for about two years, the times I have made Ray's Mother baking and taken it over. I have always used a mask and gloves, but it is snot enough apparently. It gets into the air, and I cannot be near normal flour in the kitchen. If Ray wants his special peanut butter cookies, not gluten free, I will have to go out of the house and he will have to make them.  Ray's Mom will have to be stuck taking Gluten Free Baking. Thank goodness we have so many recipes on our site.

Now I will have to await another six months to see if it disperses.  If not, it is here to say and it cannot be healed.  Damn.  Ray said,  "Well, don't use the gluten free flour for baking for Mom, it is too expensive. Well, expensive be damned. It could have caused permanent Gluten Ataxia!

I have not made my own juices but have made my own granola copycat recipe from Trader Joes Turmeric ginger granola. Have you made your own juices? blending vs cold pressed what is better?

Sadly, I just now see the extremely tiny and hard to read wording on the label from some I got from nuts.com last year and it's below the certified gluten free sign which is more obvious. Another concern is that there's no expiration date to be found on any of the packages I have gotten.. It's confusing because they claim these are certified gluten free which Is why I got them due to having celiac. Looks like Tierra Farm has the lesser of the allergens, specifically wheat, so I will have to give them a try. Thanks

After many years of running Celiac.com, one thing I've noticed is that I rarely hear about support groups that organize gluten-free picnics. It seem like this would be a great way to get celiacs together. I've attended various conferences, meetings, and events over the years, but strangely, no gluten-free picnics.
