Crazy Fatigue

Hi all,

I have my endoscopy on Wednesday morning (been waiting MONTHS). I’m excited to finally be off my gluten challenge. My symptoms were awful at first, but my body seemed to adapt a bit, however I’m still dealing with brain fog, joint pain, inflammation, migraines, neuropathy, etc.. the last few weeks my fatigue has been debilitating (especially yesterday and today). I have another autoimmune disease (Sjogren’s) for which I had been taking Methotrexate which I discontinued due to having the flu and Covid but also due to fatigue. I’m starting to wonder now if these episodes of fatigue weren’t the MTX, but actually caused by gluten.
today I didn’t get out of bed until 11 but I could have kept on sleeping… I have super vivid dreams and in a very deep sleep. Yesterday, I slept in late (9:30) but then watched a movie with my kiddo where I fell asleep for 90% of it.
Did anyone else experience anything similar pre diagnosis? Im so sick of being a zombie…

If you have gluten sensitivity or celiac disease eating gluten can definitely cause fatigue.

How did the biopsy go? You posted this on July 4th, which is a holiday in the USA, so it looks like this slipped through the cracks.

Hi Scott,

You're so kind to follow up! My biopsy was negative which was a relief. I was diagnosed with a very small hernia (which I honestly think is a result of my pregnancy), and eosinophilic esophagitis. My GI feels it’s NCGS and I agree. Even 48h off of gluten changed my body and mood. I stopped eating gluten on 7/6 and my digestion just snapped into place. Acne has calmed down. No heartburn. Less gas. Bloat is going down, also fluid retention. Even my face looks less swollen.

love my celiac pals but I’m happy I can deal with some cross contamination.
I continue to work on being diligent about my diet anyways as I have another autoimmune disease and want to heal my gut.

lots of love to this forum!

Many years ago yes, after eating and going to bed, apparently my esophagus filled with food that my body rejected, the esophagus would lay against the Heart sack (pericardium?) and the heart would respond by becoming arrhythmic. That went away with the strict diet.

I was commenting on the report saying it did not mention migraines! Yes it does last paragraph says have not seen any evidence that Celiac cause migraines! I thought this was about truth?

It has been known for some years that celiacs suffer from migraines at a higher rate than the general populatation. It is an established symptom.

I suffer so bad with migraines when I eat gluten! Yes diagnosed celiac disease n 2015 and it took me years to discover gluten was behind me having severe migraines.  So yes it happens there has to be others like me!

If black seed oil is working for his Afib, stick to it, but if not, I can say that ablation therapy is no big deal--my mother was out of the procedure in about 1 hour and went home that evening, and had zero negative effects from the treatment. PS - I would recommend that your husband get an Apple watch to monitor his Afib--there is an app and it will take readings 24/7 and give reports on how much of the time he's in it. Actual data like this should be what should guide his treatment.
