Good evening everyone,

Its been a while since I’ve posted but need some expert advice if possible, I’m almost one year in on gluten-free living and to be honest the first few months felt amazing.... however as time has gone on I’m struggling with going to the toilet and when I do I don’t stop, is this my body still adjusting to the diet, I’m definitely not getting any gluten, I’m very strict but this is a real setback and knocking my confidence to be spontaneous as always need a few pit stops, I’ve been put on prescription calcium and vitamin d as have osteopenia, I’m wondering if this might be the problem

I’m going on but just wondering if anyone else has had this and was there a solution, it’s so frustrating as I never had any problems before I was diagnosed. I should add I’m not losing any weight other than the initial bit when I first went gluten free

thank you for reading this x

Welcome back, @Ellawells,

Calcium often causes constipation.  Some over the counter calcium supplements have propylene glycol (Fleet - the stuff taken before colonoscopy to flush out the bowels) added in.

When Calcium is supplemented, magnesium should be supplemented as well.  They should be taken in a 2:1 ratio, twice as much calcium as magnesium.

Magnesium citrate glycinate is an easily absorbed form.  Magnesium will help you go.  Milk of Magnesia has been a long used remedy for constipation.

Are you taking a B Complex supplement?  Taking one will ensure that the additional vitamins needed to process the calcium are available.  Boron and Vitamin K2 are also needed for bone health.  Has your doctor referred you to a nutritionist?

Hope this helps!

I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues. If you eat in restaurants, or include gluten-free oats in your diet, you may want to cut both out to see if that helps. This article may also be helpful:

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
