Got my own blood test - please help interpret

My doctor wouldn't do the blood test unless I ate gluten for 8 weeks.  I have been gluten free for a long time, but didn't know I was glutening myself.   I definitely didn't have a gluten-free kitchen and had diarrhea for several months.  So, I got my own blood test at Quest this week.  In addition to the blood test, my genetics are positive for one of the genes.  Is this test a strong enough positive since I was getting cross contaminated and never eating anything big with gluten?  I'm going to take this and my genetic test to the endoscopy of Sept 7, my first time seeing the GI doctor.  Oh, and I'm not going to do the gluten challenge either.  I can't be that sick until Sept 7.

It’s a little unusual to have the TTG IgA positive but not confirmed by the EMA.  They look at the same antigen in different ways. There’s no way to guess what the endoscopy will show.

I had an endoscopy 4 years after trying to go gluten free.  My TTG was negative, but the DGP IgA was 29 (normal 0-19).  I still had damage.

I hope you get a clearcut results from the endoscopy so your gastroenterologist takes your gluten issue seriously!

I agree, and it looks like you need to follow up your blood test with an endoscopy for confirmation.  To me this still seems like a clearly positive result, especially if you have symptoms, which you didn't mention. Personally even if my endoscopy were in the normal range I'd still consider trying out a gluten-free diet, just based on your blood test results. 

Be sure not to go gluten-free, and eat ~2 slices of wheat bread daily, until you finish with the biopsy.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
