Genius Multi Seeded Bread

Hi, has anybody else noticed that the Genius company have recently rebranded their range of bread.  I love their Multi Seeded Loaf but has anybody noticed that as part of their rebranding, they have reduced the size of it from 535g to 430g, more than 20% smaller!  I complained to Genius and somebody called Linda Hindle said it is because of the ‘cost of living crisis.’  Bit sneaky if you ask me, and I for one will be switching to another brand.

Joe, I suspect you will find that other gluten-free bread making companies are doing this as well. I use Franz loaf bread products and I was noticing the other day that the slices seem smaller than usual.

Hi Tents, I know but it just annoys me that they try and sneak the reduction it ‘under the radar’.  I bet if they were increasing the size, they would put a big banner across the packaging “NEW BIGGER SIZE”

Hi Joe,

How funny you should post this.  I bought a loaf of that very bread from Waitrose a couple of hours ago and I thought I was seeing things.

I noticed this phenomenon first a while back when Tropicana seemed to shrink.   I think it used to come in 1 litres and 2 litres, I could be wrong??  But now it's 900 ml and 1.7L.   I think it's called, "shrinkflation".

Now everytime I go to the supermarket I challenge it to a duel, and try to find the cheapest produce I can, special offers, about to go out of date offers.  It's a wonderful feeling when you can save a bob or two, but it seems to be getting more difficult!

I do wish my waistline was affected by this shrinkflation but so far, it hasn't been!

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
