Is it possible to do a foreign exchange trip with celiac?

My school is offering an exchange trip to France, and I have been dying to go. Is it even possible to stay with a host family and expect to be accommodated? Has anyone ever done an exchange trip with celiac disease? I would love to go it just might be way to difficult.

Lucy, your best bet would be to request a host home that is gluten free. There is a chance there would be such a family available as hosts. But other than that, you are asking for trouble and if you get sick from being glutened the host home would feel some combination of guilt and insult. And you would be a drag on the party. Welcome to the forum, by the way!

      Burning Sensation in the small intestine

      I have a very timid tummy after 13 years of strict gluten free. If I try to eat like my pals, I burn.

      No red meat

      I particularly try to get lots of red meat, mostly beef. I'm slightly anemic, which isn't uncommon in celiacs. Red meat is healthy for us and the environment.

      Terrible Neurological Symptoms

      I had lyme disease for about 14 years and was also diagnosed with celiac disease about midway through. I had bad leaky gut food and chemical sensitivity like crazy dental issues I had to go on a really strict diet for 4 years to heal my gut and see a lyme Dr to heal the lyme disease Both sides of my family are celiac
