Hi there! I am SO UPSET, FURIOUS ETC.!
I was the one trying to make sure that our drugs were “safe”.. (I have celiac, my Dad has terrible DH) I have been on a mission to help him! I KNOW he is NOT ingesting ANY gluten as I cook for him. I came upon the idea that hmm maybe his medications??! That is where  it all started!! Long story longer.. CVS pharmacist was an  amazing help! The outcome NOT SO MUCH!!  The manufacturer says “there is No Gluten in our Drug. I can’t guarantee that there is Not Cross contamination in the facility though! I AM IRRATE!! We didn’t ask for this disease!! Why are there NO LAWS FOR US?! This is just toodiscouraging for me!! I was hoping you could help get me in touch with whoever to make some noise aboutthis!! It’s just NOT ok!!!
Sorry for the rant! I am extremely upset & need help to get my Dad’s rash under control! (He’s on Dapsone, makes him extremely Exhausted with the other medications he’s on)
**We need laws to protect us too!! **

We DIDN’T ask for this! IT IS A DISEASE!!! Nothing to be fluffed off over!!!

Yes I agree.
We also need safe food in hospitals! I need surgery but I won’t have it, there is nothing except fruit cups that I can eat! 😡 I am extremely sensitive, airborne reactive, so cross contamination is a big deal to me!

I found a pharmacy, Publix, that cares and gives me the “info cube” so I can call manufacturer. The other pharmacies are too overwhelmed or you cannot even speak to them to explain an allergy!

Someone needs to be the Gluten Free manufacturer.

Maria,

I am EXTREMELY SENSITIVE AS WELL! Can’t touch it! I am sorry you are going through this!! You are 1000% right!!! Even when going for endoscopy/ colonoscopy.. ummm HELLOOOOO!!! NO gluten-free FOOD?!?! It’s ridiculous!!!
I Agree also to your point of the need for a gluten-free MANUFACTURER!!!
Jennifer Esposito is a huge advocate.. maybe SHE HAS TGE PLATFORM??!!?

This looks like the most recent attempt in Congress to pass a law requiring labeling of medications with respect to gluten, although it didn’t make it through.

HR2435

The National Celiac Association advocates for this type of labeling.

National Celiac Association

Perhaps write to your congressperson and ask them to introduce such legislation or support it next time it comes up.

Thank you SO MUCH for your WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE & information!!!! 🤭

I will DEFINITELY do ALL of the above that you mentioned!!! 🙌🫶

Dylan Dreyer on the Today Show's son Cal has celiac.  Having more celebrities diagnosed will bring more attention to this. I was super lucky.  I live in Anacortes Washington USA and had to have emergency gall bladder surgery.  Island Hospital did great - about having gluten free options and lactose free too.

Good to know!! I am in New York. I was unaware that Cal has Celiac, and YES the more celebrities or people in power, that have it might help..
You are right about the fact that we are GROWING IN #s!!

Yes, I meant if you had celiac disease but went gluten-free before screening, your results would end up false-negative. As @trents mentioned, this can also happen when a total IGA test isn't done.

I found at Disney springs and Disney they have specialist that when told about dietary restrictions they come and talk to you ,explain cross contamination measures tsken and work with you on choices. Its the one place I dont worry once I've explained I have celiac disease.  Thier gluten free options are awesome.

Have you tried Pure Encapsulations supplements? This is a brand my doctor recommends for me. I have no issues with this brand.

plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!
