Anyone on here farmiliar with stomach biopsy results and know the terminology well? I have the results of my biopsy and would like to know more in depth about.  Such as what stage celiac disease I have.  The resrouces and knowledge of celiac disease in my town is pretty slim so aside from the diagosis I did not get much information.  If anyone can help, that would be awesome!

Feel free to share the info and we can take a stab at what we think they might mean. We're not doctors but have seen quite a few biopsy results over the years.

Sounds good! I will list by each biopsy the terms I do not under stand that were found:

Gastric Lesion Biopsy: Foveolar Glandular Hyperplasia

Duodenum: Villous Atrophy and Intraepithelial Lymphocytosis

There was also mucosa found through out the duodenum, terminal ileum and colon biopsies.

When looking online I saw each stage of celiac disease had these terms listed but I had no idea how to piece it together to compare it to anything. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can point me in the right direction!

So be sure to confirm the meaning with your doctor, but this endoscopy result might indicate the following:

  • Gastric Lesion Biopsy: Foveolar Glandular Hyperplasia, which is a thickening of the stomach lining, typically due to chronic irritation or inflammation.
  • Duodenum: Villous Atrophy and Intraepithelial Lymphocytosis, meaning there is damage to the intestinal lining, with flattening of the villi (tiny projections that help absorb nutrients) and an increase in immune cells, both of which are common in celiac disease.
  • Mucosa Presence: Mucosal tissue was found throughout the duodenum, terminal ileum, and colon, indicating the biopsies were taken from the correct areas for evaluating the extent of any intestinal damage.

Overall, these findings are consistent with celiac disease, characterized by damage to the small intestine due to gluten exposure.

Thank you. I already cut out dairy and eggs because I found out I was having a problem with them. To be honest I’m just getting worn out 😂

Hi Kitty, thank you for your e mail,  I have seen a nutritionist who seemed to be happy with the food diary I had been keeping and nothing was mentioned about extra vitamins, and I’m still using milk etc . The steroids seem to be working and everything is functioning as it should however,  the course of tablets finish at the end of February and I have an appointment with the consultant early April probably followed by another endoscopy, as far as I’m aware I have not been tested for vitamin B and will definitely discuss it with the doctor on my next visit.

It might be understandable to say "friends or family weeded me or you out of their lives". Some people are fearful of getting out of their comfortable known lives and having to make changes to accommodate another.   If they are too uncomfortable to walk a mile with me, I shake the dust off my feet and journey on.  They're just not ready to learn that lesson.  But you confidently keep going on your journey.  They can catch up later.

You might also be sensitive to other things while you are healing. Dairy, for example. It won't harm you from a celiac standpoint but is inflammatory and could be bothering you. Have you been keeping a food & symptom journal? Might be worth it for a week to see if you notice something you are eating prior to the times you feel your worst. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Someone recently recommended Superfoods for looking up recipes free of allergens or intolerances.  It's a web site but there's also an app.
