I would like to go out for Sushi, but I don't know if it is safe? I was thinking if I bring my own wheat free soy sauce it would be ok?? I know, no imitation crab. But what about the other sushi. Is it safe? Is there a high cross contamination risk?

I've only done it once since I went gluten free. Definitely your own soy sauce and no imitation crab. I had cucumber rolls in seaweed with rice, a shrimp roll, some edamame and I did fine (I'm very sensitive too). But I'd like to hear what others have to say because I wasn't very bold and I don't know what else to watch out for.

Sashimi is fine and so is most Nigiri (regular sushi)

Nothing with "spicy" (most of the "spicy" contains soy sauce"

No eel (unless not marinated in soy sauce)

No mackerel (same)

No imitation crab

No California rolls (unless you do what I do and substitute shrimp for crab in those rolls -- yummy!)

No Tempura (pure flour)

No Soy Sauce (a given)

I usually get a few pieces of octopus, salmon, toro or albacore. The rice is fine and normally the wasabi is ok too.

Whole foods market has a great sushi section. I get the raw tuna or raw salmon. The rice is made with a gluten free vinegar and the sauces are prepackaged on the side (don't eat them) I use my own soy sauce. I think there are avocodo/cucumber ones that are ok too.

Make sure you ask about how the sushi rice is prepared. Some places prepare the rice with rice vinegar that has been brewed with alcohol--you just have to check if they use the vinegar because it might not be ok.

      Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

      What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.
