I'm very new to this forum, My mother comes here all the time. She now has cancer , and is also a celiac. She is suffering from celiac type symptoms, I have told her to contact her doctor first off. But I wanted to ask the group also, If they can tell me where to get information on if these drugs were gluten free.

Dexamethosone, metolazne, sprionolactone. I told her she needed to contact the pharmacist where she got them, And that more than likely it wasn't thedrugs causing this, they put her on a diff chemo this time, she said the doctor knows about her celiac. She's real frustrated and was crying when I just recently talked to her, I am going to call her back to see if she contacted the doctor yet.

thanks in advance for the help

Thanks so much Stacie for the wonderful web sites, their real helpful, I just talked to my step father, They both seem to think that it's the latest chemo that she's taking that is causing all the problems, as most of those drugs I mentioned she'd been taking for quite some time. I did find out that all were gluten free except for the sprionalactone, that's the generic name, and it didn't mention if it was generic, But i'm about to go see if the regular name for it is gluten free. She's really had a rough time, She was diagnosed with phase 4 breast cancer which matasticised to her lungs, liver & brain, & lymphnodes. She's been on chemo for about 6 months now, the cancer is gone in the body except one spot in the lungs, and the brain cancer has reduced 50% so I'd say that's excellent for someone who's suppose to be terminal with cancer. They gave her no hope really at all. But she's not givin up yet.

thanks again for the help

You are welcome I am happy to hear they helped. I am sorry to hear about your mom. It's good that the chemo seems to be working and that your mom has not given up hope. I am sure she is having a tough time with Chemo on top of Celiac. She is in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Kathy,

I'm new to the forum (I don't know why I'm listed as advanced on some threads) and I have a list of medications that are all supposed to be gluten free. We still need to read all the labels carefully.

Loey

I hope that his helps you:

I would certainly contact the manufacturer to verify any list submitted. :)

When symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, or low energy change how we interact, others sometimes misinterpret that as disinterest, rudeness, or negativity—especially if they don’t understand the underlying condition. That doesn’t make their behavior okay, though. You don’t deserve to be treated poorly for something outside your control. Often, it reflects a lack of awareness or empathy on their part, not a fault in you. It can help to explain your condition to people you trust, but it’s also completely valid to set boundaries and distance yourself from those who respond with hostility. Your experience—and your reaction to it—makes sense. The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.  Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend that those just diagnosed with celiac disease take a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement, which would greatly benefit most, if not all, newly diagnosed celiacs. Because of this it took me decades to overcome a few long-standing issues I had that were associated with gluten ataxia, for example numbness and tingling in my feet, and muscle knots--especially in my shoulders an neck. Only long term extensive supplementation has helped me to resolve these issues.

Being HLA-DQ2 positive doesn’t diagnose celiac disease by itself, but it does mean he has the genetic potential for it, so it absolutely deserves careful follow-up if symptoms or concerns are present. You’re right that celiac is often downplayed, but it’s a serious autoimmune condition—not an allergy—and it can affect the brain, nervous system, and overall health if untreated. Given everything your son has been through, you’re doing the right thing by advocating and asking questions. I would strongly recommend getting a full copy of his records, and if possible, consulting a gastroenterologist who understands celiac disease well so you can get clear answers and, if needed, proper testing and monitoring.

Yes, I don't recommend barley or wheat grass, even though technically speaking if it's made using ONLY the pure grass it is gluten-free, however, I've witnessed them make it at Jamba Juice and the seeds/kernels often get mixed into the grass before they juice it, so in that case would not be safe.

FYI Do NOT ingest.I bought thinking it would be fabulous because it has all the multivitamins in a mix that one can mix with your choice of drink. That ine scoop with Itty bity ingredient Barely grass did me in.It has all the labels stating dairy free glutenfree soy free , organic ect.Its NOT SAFE.

Yes all that went away after I was able to go gluten free again. Gluten does strange concerning things to me and my body
