Has anyone been approved on the basis of Celiac? I thought about this route but I wasnt sure if it qualified as a disability?

Everyone is different but in most places a celiac diagnosis is not a basis for SSI. If it is diagnosed promptly it will not effect someones ability to work and after a while on the gluten-free diet many are healthier than the rest of the population. The exception to this is for people who it took years to diagnose because of the damage the disease does to other body systems other resulting problems like arthritis and neurological difficulties with thought and movement. In those cases it is the resulting damage and diseases from the undiagnosed celiac that qualifys one for SSI. The best one to talk to about SSI would be your states SSI office and perhaps a lawyer as rules are different for different areas. If you are newly diagnosed and following the diet strictly, this includes non-food gluten avoidance, you should see enough improvment in your health to have no problem working.

I don't know about disability benefits, but I did stumble across something about governmental vouchers for specified gluten-free stores. They recognize the increase in cost for gluten-free foods. You, and your Dr. have to fill out their forms (you can get them in any Social Security office). Good luck to you!

Do you have a link to this info? What would I ask for at the SSI office? I fought getting disability for years always hoping I would get better but I have been left with some residual problems the force me to work from home. Those vouchers would be a great help if you have any more information on this.

I looked it up again... hopefully I can get it to work on here. (if not just put "gluten-free food vouchers" into your search engine and it should come up in the search.)

Yeah, that site is not for the US, nor for New Jersey. It is for the "State of Jersey".... which is in Europe

People with asthma and food allergies work too. but children with these problems qualify because of the added expense of their care I believe. That is why I am looking into it.

After waisted time of new care team, yet again EXHAUSTED saw new gi today in Modesto, though all my ailments im not getting any kind of concern of me being celiac and sentive to just about everything since menopause. Dr daid why don't I go see you guys because my blood shows zero for celiac. I told him im glutenfree since 1994 by colonoscopy with biopsy positive celiac sprue by GI.Its RIDICULOUS when im bringing in material from this site of knowledge as well as the autoimmune institute, and  there's zero interest on their part.Medical IS causing me depression.Im view as a disability chaser, IM STILL RECOVERING from being a bus driver that im still healing and having more issues, now I may have multiple sclerosis or meningioma. Ive reached out, wrote letters, NOT feeling well. This is inhumane.

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating

I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.
