Amanda- Landen is SOOOO cute (except the liquid poo part!!!!!!)

You bet....he must have had an assistant or a booking agent. I'd love to have had a look at his day-timer...talk about full days!

Seriously- let's see.

8 am Bulid house (he's a carpenter after all!)

12 lunch break- produce mounds of bread and fish

3 rent tux to wear to wedding and figure out how to turn water into wine just in case

5 save that poor woman from stoning

7 have dinner with mum and dad. Break news about cruxifiction. Mom is NOT going to be happy!

8 call Lazarus's wife and arrange to meet her at the cave on Sunday.

9 pack for month in the desert with Satan (God- that guy is such a jerk, can't you make him leave me alone?)

Look who's OraclePeteing????

You're all treasured. Just knowing I can talk to people who understand is of great comfort.

But hey .. .maybe I meet someone interesting tonight.

I love that word "treasured" Did ya meet anyone "'treasurable" last night?

My son's pulmonologist thinks the whole Celiac/gluten intolerance thing is going to explode . . . a lot larger percentage than people (docs/scientists) think.

A story about our pulmonologist . . . I love him . . . by far my favoUrite doctor of all the doctor's that I've dealt with . . . oh, fyi, son is border line asthmatic and appears to be outgrowing it. . . anywho, whenever we see him (once a year, now) he always talks to my son first. Doesn't want me to talk and influence my son's answers. Is always patient when my daughter interupts because she absolutely can't be left out of anything!!! I have NEVER been rushed at his office. . . A couple of years ago, at the end of one of his appts, my son asked the doc where he keeps the anti-venom. They then had a very thorough discussion of who needs anti-venom. Which hospitals would have it. How to store it. What kind of doctors use it. Documentories on venomous snakes on TV . . . on and on. As he walked us out the door, he grinned and said to me "Best conversation I've had all week!"

that's awesome!!!!!! Your kids are so great! I agree- look how much has changed in the 3 years I've been gluten-free. Imagine celiac before the Internet? I think we are the first "generation" that people are finally starting to pay attention to!!!

And much easier to handle than dyed rooster sperm. <ewwww>

I bet the Franklin ppl were pissed having to toss all the inventory that didn't say A.D. :o

Speaking of eggs, I fixed some scrambled Chicken Butt Cootie eggs for the kids' breakfast this morning.

No, but thanks for the effort. *sigh* It CAN'T go on forever... Right???????

I hate that! :( I have been through that... going to bed wondering, Am I going to be ok tomorrow, or is tomorrow going to suck? There are people who would say, You have to MAKE it a good day. I don't say that quite so glibly, and kind of think those people need to occasionally be smacked. (((Hugs)))

It's 12:30... but The Thing is on AMC. I'm never gonna get to bed tonight. I love this movie.

CHICKEN BUTT COOTIE EGGS!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG- my MIL says "Sometimes you just gotta suck it up and deal" and it SERIOUSLY makes me want to punch her. She said it after my mom died    Yes- you do have to deal but you do NOT have to suck it up. You can be mad, sad, frustrated when something happens. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes- gotta love the people who say MAKE tomorrow a good day- they're not the ones with molten lava pouring out of their butts every 15 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

I reallly hope you all start to feel better soon Sarah.

Yes!! Biblical Y2K...Was everyone braced and ready for their primitive technologies to suffer technical meltdown? Rivers parting an hour too early, great floods every few days....

RIGHT!! I know things will be better for you and your gang soon, Sarah...hang in there!

Bibical Y2K..........OMG- we are insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This may be a repeat as I love to tell this story, so my apologies if it is . . .

I had my daughter telling me that Jesus was the Easter Bunny . . . only to be interupted by her brother telling her that No, Jesus was more like a zombie.

:D I hadn't heard that before.

I remember ads saying "good for your digestion".

Anyone else wonder if the advent of this notion was related to things like Patti's smoking years being most asymptomatic?

When my grandmother's son was dying of cancer at 16, I'm told the doctor told her to go home and have a cigarette to help calm her nerves--she had never smoked before in her life, but took it up then. This happened when I was very young, and my whole life I remember grandma with her omnipresent cigarette case and lighter. She smoked like a chimney until the day she died at almost 90. On the advice of her doctor!

I bet the Franklin ppl were pissed having to toss all the inventory that didn't say A.D. :o

Morning Sillies...well we got practice with a sick baby last night.

Looks like you got initiated but good! :P What a lucky little boy to have such caring sitters. :)

My MIL, too  She's a wonderful person, really, but sometimes you can't just suck it up if if your life depended on it!:angry::lol:

Ugh, I want to punch her in the head for you! I think it's pretty emotionally unhealthy to just "suck it up" when completely horrible things happen in your life. I was at my uncle and aunt's house one day while I was still quite sick and my aunt told me to "stop acting so sick" and to not be so "over the top" about avoiding gluten. Never seen my dad and brother so enraged in my life! My dad almost got in a fist fight with my uncle (his brother) over the situation. :o The same aunt told my brother to "just cheer up and get over it" when he was hospitalized with depression not too long after our mom died. Some people just don't get it :( . But thankfully, most people in my life do.

I had lots of fun decorating Easter eggs yesterday. It was surprisingly traumatic for the little ones though because they kept dropping their eggs and breaking them. Every egg that broke was their "favourite one!". The excitement of the chocolate Easter egg hunt helped them get over the broken egg trauma quite well! I love Ryan's niece and nephews -- it always lifts my spirits to be around them.

:lol::lol: Bev!!!

Guess he wouldn't have been jotting in appointments with doctors, mechanics, veterenarians, teachers, athletic therapists or hairdressers....quite an unholy day-timer, mine is.

Do you think he had to book a time and date for the Last Supper? Did he need to make a reservation for thirteen? Smoking or non?:lol:

OMG- my MIL says "Sometimes you just gotta suck it up and deal" and it SERIOUSLY makes me want to punch her. She said it after my mom died :angry:

Auuuggghhh!! Makes me SOOOOO angry! Bev, you needed to borrow Peter's special MIL rifle...:lol:

I got the same attitude from a couple of my friends when I was crippled with post-partum depression. They did, actually, come around, however. Thank gawd my family completely understood and gave me all the time I needed to heal. :)

Bev!!! Molten lava....... :lol::lol:

Part one!

Ahh dang .. . . ..brain going good this AM & I stacked all these quotes fully expecting funny silliness to come to mind, but after just running a few simple errands I'm SO worn out!!

Tired brain laughs, but isn't very creative.

Saw mention of goat butter @WhF on another thread, so I got some. $7 for a 1/2 lb!!

Ouch! But it must be tried in the interest of science.

My son's pulmonologist thinks the whole Celiac/gluten intolerance thing is going to explode . . . a lot larger percentage than people (docs/scientists) think.

Wow .. . .. ..don't hear THAT often enough, tho I, of course, agree. (Don't we all!)

. . . on and on. As he walked us out the door, he grinned and said to me "Best conversation I've had all week!"

Awesome :)

 Hilarious! Luke was on the phone with my MIL tonight, telling her the toys he wants for Easter... like it's Christmas or something.

Speaking of eggs, I fixed some scrambled Chicken Butt Cootie eggs for the kids' breakfast this morning. The kids were fascinated by the various-sized brown eggs, and the fact that they came from my best friend's mom's chickens. They're calling them "Real Eggs." Lucas (quite correctly) noted that they taste better than "grocery store eggs." Brian says he doesn't care, he's still not eating them. <_< I'm going to keep working on him.

This ALWAYS makes me laugh, and not just the CBC part. The fact that Brian somehow thinks factory eggs are immune to Chicken Butt Cootiness cracks me up.

I feel soooooooo close to the right teasing & obliquely insulting (in a friendly way) phrase to use on him BUT IT'S NOT COMING!!!!!

There are people who would say, You have to MAKE it a good day. I don't say that quite so glibly, and kind of think those people need to occasionally be smacked.

Let's all smack one of these types each week.

If you're not sure who deserves it, just make your best guess!

...Wonder if his planner was page-an-epoch, with added pages for Eucharists, etc. I suppose as well there was NO page or section for Sunday, as there was nothin' goin' on workwise in his life on that day.... <_<

 most wackl, Em is

. .. and he let loose what sounded like a "Wet" fart....he smiled a bit and I joked with him about being a little piggy. Then he did it again only longer.....and then again. My shirt felt a little wet....

Bev! for Dei-Planner entries!

I love that word "treasured" Did ya meet anyone "'treasurable" last night?

Bah .. . ..almost didn't go but glad I did. They'd changed the place around some. Not conducive to much mingling.

Didn't get a chance to weasel my way in to even say hello to one w/ potential.

But the band was very good. Hadn't heard a flugelhorn in person in so long. Such a mellifluous tone. :)

Reminds me that there was something I said recently that could've been taken wrongly, but probably wasn't by any of you.

It was only about these UFO reactions, where I said I'd "snap out of it". THAT phrase was one of the things I hated most to hear when mired in the long depression.

The UFO-type of bad days aren't that.

Not sure why I'm bothering to type this except that it bugged ME a little that I'd use that phrase, however apple&orangey it was.

Gad....if there ever was someone who did NOT need an agent, it was one Jesus Christ. They packed a supper table, various fields and waterways, courtyards and mangers, for his appearances. Probably standing-room only for most. No Ticketmaster, either....:lol:

So, visited Dad today. He won't be discharged until he can make it to and from the bathroom from his bed on his own. This is a good thing, as our province has been plagued the last few years with cases of patients being sent home too early (again, this HEINOUS bed shortage), so it is good to see that they're not fooling around here.

The doctor on rounds stopped in and was commenting on how he was glad to hear that Dad had been up on his own twice today to use the bathroom. He said that Dad's full strength should return fully, and he'll be walking around like before. Dad replied, "Oh, that's great. Will I, uh.......be able to dance?"

The doctor smiled a little, shrugged and said, "Well, sure, I would think so".

"Great!" Dad said. "I've never been able to before".

:lol::lol:

Thank gawd he's still being funny........

 Glad he's on the mend and that he's in good spirits. I sometimes talk to Colin for hours on end when he's feeling down -- I'm certainly not complaining but sometimes I run out of things to talk about. He's asked me before about your dad since I told him just WHO he is so during one of our long one-sided talks I mentioned to him that he was in the hospital. Every time I've talked to Colin since then he wants to know how your dad is doing. I'll be happy to tell him that he's improving and is as funny as ever.

We're going to watch the movie Hoodwinked tonight! Anyone ever seen it. I don't know why but I really like it. It's a simple movie but it just makes me feel happy. One of my favourite song from the movie: Open Original Shared Link (Sorry Susie it's kind of musicalesque but it is an animated movie set in a magical forest so it kind of works I think.)

He'll be in hospital for this Easter, but I'm having the rest of the family here for lamb, and we'll be calling him from the table. Happy Easter Sillies!!!!

Sorry I didnt post earlier, been quite the busy day. After Landen went home in the morning, I started to get our stuff ready and did some prep dinner work. Then it was off to John's house to celebrate Easter for his dad, and me and his dads coworker who's wife passed a few years ago and his family all lives in the Rochester NY area, so he has holidays with us. John's family is russian orthodox so their Easter will come in a few weeks. His father as well as myself are Catholic.

Now we are almost ready for our dinner and Jen and Landen will be up any minute. So it has been a busy day. Its also my first Married Easter.

Great to hear about your dad Em!!!!!

Damn Ham!!!! It was delicious, mind you, but by the time it was ready, everyone was full from snacking around waiting for the ham to be done.

Wish us luck tomorrow. My son's tonsilectomy is scheduled for 11 am. They told us that if he is overly anxious when we check in, the anethesiologist (is that spelled right? can't be bothered to go look it up) will give him something to calm his nerves. We told them to have some ready for when we walk through the door!!!!

Time to go bite the head off of one more unsuspecting peep . . . the marshmallow kind, Nikki!!

Hello, all. I hope everybody had a pleasant Easter.

Dinner with the in-laws went very well.

FIL has taken to beer of late (he used to mostly drink wine), and he tried La Messagere, the only beer I have in the house cuz it's the only gluten-free one available in Ontario. He thought it was good. Of course, his usual is Coors.

Janet, I hope things go well tomorrow. I had my tonsillectomy at age six, and my most vivid memory is of the anesthesia. This was early 1961, and they were still using ether. To this day, if I get a whiff of ether I am transported back to the OR inhaling the ether. :(

I had another general anesthesia in 2005, and it was much easier to endure. It started with an injection, then I just faded away. As a type 1 diabetic, I am used to injections--I self-inject insulin several times a day. But, I remember as a child being afraid of needles. I'll be thinking of you.

@Mynx, how long have you been gluten-free? I ask because many newly diagnosed celiacs react to many things, and often think their reactions are caused by gluten, when in fact, they are really caused by a combination of a sensitive gut due to damage, as well as additional food intolerance/leaky gut issues to other foods which may be temporary until their villi heal.
    • Scott Adams
Many major brands of distilled vinegar in the USA, including Heinz white vinegar, are typically made from corn. In the United States, corn is a common and cost-effective raw material used in the production of distilled white vinegar. The process involves fermenting the sugars derived from corn into alcohol, which is then further fermented into acetic acid to produce vinegar. Distillation follows, which purifies the liquid and removes impurities, including any residual proteins or allergens. While the source of the vinegar (e.g., corn) is not always explicitly stated on the label, corn-derived vinegar is widely used in the food industry due to its neutral flavor and affordability. For individuals with gluten intolerance or celiac disease, distilled vinegar made from corn is generally considered safe, as the distillation process effectively removes gluten proteins. However, if you have concerns about cross-contamination or specific sensitivities, it’s always a good idea to contact the manufacturer directly to confirm the sourcing and production practices. Heinz, for example, has stated that their distilled white vinegar is gluten-free and safe for those with celiac disease, but verifying this information can provide additional peace of mind. The belief that distilled vinegar is gluten-free is rooted in the scientific understanding that gluten proteins, which are large and complex molecules, are generally too big to pass through the distillation process. Distillation involves heating a liquid to create vapor, which is then condensed back into a liquid form, leaving behind larger molecules like gluten proteins. However, the concern about cross-contamination arises from the possibility that gluten-containing ingredients may have been present in the liquid prior to distillation. While the distillation process itself is highly effective at removing gluten, the equipment used in production could potentially introduce trace amounts of gluten if not thoroughly cleaned between batches. For most individuals with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, distilled vinegar is considered safe because the gluten content, if any, is typically below the threshold that would trigger a reaction. However, for those with extreme gluten intolerance or celiac disease, even trace amounts can cause adverse effects. This is why some individuals, like yourself, may choose to avoid commercially produced distilled vinegar and opt for alternatives like apple cider vinegar, which can be verified as gluten-free. The meticulous process of researching ingredients and preparing homemade products, such as ketchup, is indeed challenging but crucial for maintaining health and avoiding gluten exposure. It’s important to note that regulatory standards for gluten-free labeling vary by region, and in many places, products labeled "gluten-free" must contain less than 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten, which is considered safe for the vast majority of people with celiac disease. Nonetheless, individual sensitivity levels can vary, and your approach highlights the importance of personalized dietary management for those with severe gluten intolerance.

I have been diagnosed with Microscopic Colitis (LC) for quite a few years, so I have been gluten-free and DF.  I would like to get tested for Celiac Disease because of the possibility of cross contamination and colon cancer.  And if you were hospitalized and didn't have a celiac diagnosis you could not get gluten-free food, I don't know if that is true or not.  Also because there is chance of colon cancer so I want to know if I have Celiac Disease and need to be on very restrictive diet.  The only testing I did was a sigmoid scope and Enter Lab but no gene testing.  I know I can go back to eating gluten for a few months, but I would worry you would have to stay home for the few months while getting gluten.  What other options do I have?  Should I do the gene testing?  Maybe through Entero Lab?  Any other tests?  How important is it to have Celiac diagnosed? Thank you! Barb
    • trents
Take it easy! I was just prompting you for some clarification.  In the distillation process, the liquid is boiled and the vapor descends up a tube and condenses into another container as it cools. What people are saying is that the gluten molecules are too large and heavy to travel up with the vapor and so get left behind in the original liquid solution. Therefore, the condensate should be free of gluten, no matter if there was gluten in the original solution. The explanation contained in the second sentence I quoted from your post would not seem to square with the physics of the distillation process. Unless, that is, I misunderstood what you were trying to explain.
    • Mynx
No they do not contradict each other. Just like frying oil can be cross contaminated even though the oil doesn't contain the luten protein. The same is the same for a distilled vinegar or spirit which originally came from a gluten source. Just because you don't understand, doesn't mean you can tell me that my sentences contradict each other. Do you have a PhD in biochemistry or friends that do and access to a lab?  If not, saying you don't understand is one thing anything else can be dangerous to others.
