Yesterday was OK. I mean as OK as it can be. Glad it's over. My dad, sis and my two nieces came over and we just hung out. My nieces were definitely a distraction- they crack me up and my sister says my voice (we have always referred to ourselves as "The Loud Family") gets even louder bwhen I'm with them!!! Can you imagine? Moi?

So cute! And how is Angus these days?

He's doiing very will. My in-laws want to steal him, but I told them to get their own. Actually on PetFinder under Great Dog Rescue there are at least three pups that look like he did when he was a wee one!!!!!!!! :wub:Skye is not coming- someone got to her before me!!!!!!!!!! :(

Judy

Amen to that! Tomorrow is going to be warmer here (I'll be in NYC for the day for Lymieness) but this weekend- BRRR- cold and raw and maybe snow?????????

We give each other, honestly, THE most romantic gifts. After a great deal of soul searching and pondering, I went to the Empire of Romance, Home Depot, and bought him a beautiful set of wrenches. They simply scream out I love you. Then, not assuaged in my need to express my pounding desire, I headed to Chapters and bought him a big atlas of the world.

  I can only imagine what he gives you.......that state of the art mixer in retro colors that screams "Even after all these years, I still thiink you're sexy". That toaster oven that says, "baby, you're smoking hot"

The only North American Olympic Torch run is right now in SF.

I'm watching and they just restarted after this elaborate bus/van escape from the planned route to Van Ness Blvd . ..miles away!!

I've been saying for years, since the very DAY China got the games, that it's just wrong - it's a 'welcome to the club pat-on-the-back', not the 'motivation to change' some say it is. Bah :(

I KNOW!!!! And Toronto lost to Beijing too -- I was so disappointed! But we wouldn't have gotten Vancouver 2010 if we got Toronto for 2008 so I guess it worked out in the end. We will definitely do better at the Winter Olympics than we would at the Summer Games. But if it were in Toronto I would maybe go see some stuff but I don't think I'll be able to go to BC.

Could very well be. I know they have been persistent, She tried to get me in for a "meet" all this week at various times but due to my nutsy schedule I had to wait for next week. I'll keep ya all posted though.

Sounds promising, Amanda! You take our brain....

Speaking of hockey (whaaaaaaaa.....? ), seems kind of a shame that I'm not into it, w/ expectations so high for the team that plays blocks away.

EGADS!!!!!! My hubby was just watching the protests/escape route while IM'ing with friends in San Francisco. Apparently you West Coasters are taking this really seriously :P It is ridiculous, on so many levels, that the Olympics are in China with all the atrocities (my wee Buddhist heart really goes out to Tibet and now they've even got Nepal messed up!!!!!).

I was thinking if I was an athlete I think I would just say "no" but then I'd be accused of...errr...something...I'm sure!!!!!!!!

Toronto (Trono) AND Vancouver should have gotten both! When was the last time Canadians ran over peaceful protestors with tanks? When was there ever a torture camp in Calgary? Air pollution in Manitoba? Communism in the Yukon? HARUMPH..........................................

It makes me sad to see a whole troupe of riot police running alongside the marathon -- it's just so wrong . . . so against the spirit of Olympics. I'm not knocking the protesters or anything; it's just an unfortunate situation. Apparently the Chinese media is reporting that the relay is going just fine ! Thank gawd for the freedom of the press we have. So happy to be Canadian.

I saw the part of the relay for the Calgary Olympics when I was 5 and it was so exciting; I'll never forget it. I'm glad I didn't have to experience it with protesters and a huge police presence.

Next av isn't 12:05AM the unhinged-jaw gaping-maw encompassing Susie's head nearly to eyebrows so far???

It is ridiculous, on so many levels, that the Olympics are in China with all the atrocities

Just 3 or 4 days ago they sentenced a columnist to 3.5yrs in prison for what was inferred to be oblique & mild criticism of communism.

And wanted credit for NOT giving the 10yrs they could have!!!

When was there ever a torture camp in Calgary?

Flames fans may think so when the Sharks are in town for games 3 & 4. :P

Air pollution in Manitoba?

Yeah, but it blew over from China :(

Yes!! Much easier to breathe in our winter air.....it can be cold enough to burn yer lungs, but it does contain oxygen....

Thank you so much for your response! Does this mean that each of my parents on their own may not have HLA-DQ8 but combined together gave me HLA-DQ8?
    • Scott Adams
Any chance you are getting traces of gluten in your diet? This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
    • Scott Adams
Your interpretation is on the right track! Based on your results, you do have one of the genetic markers associated with celiac risk—HLA-DQ8—which means you inherited DQA1*03 from one parent and DQB1*0302 from the other. These two alleles together form the HLA-DQ8 haplotype, so having both confirms the DQ8 positivity (not just one alone). Since you’re DQ2-negative but DQ8-positive, this still means you have a genetic predisposition to celiac (though not everyone with DQ8 develops it). If you’re experiencing symptoms, the next step would be discussing antibody testing (like tTG-IgA) or an endoscopy with your doctor, but I think you decided not to do the gluten challenge and just go gluten-free.
    • Scott Adams
A quick Google search turns up lots of options, but be careful eating out, as cross-contamination is common--even in restaurants that offer a gluten-free menu: https://www.google.com/search?q=gluten-free+in+Wilmington%2C+DE&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS981US983&oq=gluten-free+in+Wilmington%2C+DE
    • Scott Adams
It’s absolutely possible for celiac flares to affect your eyes—many people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity report eye inflammation (like uveitis or dry eyes) during systemic reactions. Since celiac is an autoimmune condition, the inflammation isn’t limited to just your gut; it can trigger immune responses elsewhere, including the eyes. The fact that your symptoms coincide suggests a clear connection, even if your diet has been strict. Cross-contamination or hidden gluten could still be playing a role, or it might be worth exploring other autoimmune triggers (like vitamin deficiencies or coexisting conditions). Have you talked to your doctor about testing for inflammation markers or seeing an ophthalmologist? It’s frustrating when symptoms persist despite your best efforts, but you’re not imagining this—research and patient accounts back it up. Here is a recent scientific paper on this: https://www.cureus.com/articles/358124-ocular-insights-exploring-uveitis-as-a-manifestation-of-celiac-disease#!/
