Rolaids

I've been reading all the posts about Rolaids and there seems to be some confusion as to whether they truly are gluten free. Some people have mentioned cross contamination and some of the ingredients are questionable. Has anyone called the company? I'm going to call them on Monday but need an antacid now. I get very severe stomach pain if I get glutened, so I am not going to take any chances. What is the consensus?

The Clan Thompson "Smart Drug List" has them listed as "UNKNOWN" with comment that "No Gluten ingredients are used but could be cross contaminated".

Their website says the same thing: (They are made by Pfizer) - They use no gluten-containing ingredients (and they specify gluten-grains) in any of their products, they cannot guarantee that CC did not occur during MFG process. This is a typical CYA drug-company (and most food company's too) response.

I have no reaction to Rolaids or any other Pfizer products.

But a miniscule amount of CC probably would not affect me - point to note.

I think ALL antacids are probably the same since they are all made by drug companies that ALWAYS CYA.

But have not checked that many.

Thanks for writing so quickly. I had a bad reaction to a medicine last weekend, so I am being very careful. I'll check with Pfizer on Monday. I just looked up Mylanta and may try that. Anyone take it?

Just a note about many antacids. I used to have bad "D" with them and talked to my doctor about it. He said that many like Tums and Rolaids clears the up set stomach by having a laxative action to them.

He recommends that we use Galvascon as it is gluten free and does the job with out the "D" and cramps problem. I use that all the time now.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
