Tired Of Coping And Scared

Newbie here. Here is my story. Last year, in September I was going back to school to become a dental assistant. I had to take the HEP B vaccine. I received it and got deathly ill. My body almost shut down, I lost 15 pounds in two weeks, I became allergic to all foods, slept 18 hours a day, and was very week. My (poos) were always loose and smelled awful. Anyway, over the last year I have had 4 full blood work ups, many x-rays, a CT scan, and an MRI. My tests have showed HLA B27 positive(ankolosing Spondylitis), small diverticuli, a small lesion on my kidney, and two protruding discs in my back. I have felt like crap since the vaccination. I had reintroduced all foods and noticed a pattern of being allergic to dairy, pasta, and bread. I found this site and have been on a gluten free diet for a week. It seems to be helping but last night my body felt miserable again. My regular doctor has no idea how to help me and even silently prayed over me at one visit. I am sure he has no idea what celiac is. My dad and Aunt died of lymphoma and my dad also had colon and intestinal cancer and severe stomach problems all his life.

My questions are:

1. Does this sound like celiac to you guys?

2. Is it normal to have days where your body feels like it is revolting on the gluten diet?

3. Do you all lead a normal life? I want to be able to work and travel again.

4. Since last week, I have lost 4 pounds on the gluten diet. I can stand to lose another 20 pounds(not the way I wanted to do this) but will the weight loss slow down on the diet? I don't want to die of starvation.

Thanks everyone. My heart goes out to everyone who has to deal with this horrible disease.

Yes, it could be possible that you have Celiac Disease. You have listed several sympton, although celiac disease can have as many as 200 symptoms.

As you doctor to run a full panel of tests for Celiac. But if you want to be tested you must continue eating gluten or your test will be inaccurate.

I you want to begin the diet, you need to go back to the basics:

Chicken, rice, potatos, steamed veggie, seafood. Use little seasonings, just salt and pepper. Eat very simply.

You also need to check your shampoos, lotions, toothpaste, lipstick. (anything that can get into your mouth)

You have been sick for so long, it will take some time to feel better. If you have positive response from this diet, you have your answers.

Others will post and offer more information. Keep reading here. It the best source of information available.

Welcome

I've read many stories of adverse reactions to the Hep B vaccine...most of which tell of resulting autoimmune issues, some debilitating. Yet this vaccine is still required in many places and the stories of reaction are dismissed as unrelated.

I definitely wouldn't be surprised if it triggered the onset of celiac disease. Giving the gluten free diet a serious try is worth it. It is actually a very healthy way to eat, and any weight loss should stabilize eventually.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
