I looked back on this board and see Swiss Chalet as a suggestion. Anyone know of any other places that are Celiac-Friendly?

Thanks in advance...

I'll answer my own post for those of you who might be interested. I emailed the Halifax chapter of the Celiac Association and here's the response I received:

Hi! We have some great gluten friendly restaurants in the Halifax area. CHIVES Restaurant on Barrington Street will do a gluten free for you.

Sticks Eatery in the Hydrostone area (off Young Street) is a Greek Restaurant but most of the food is gluten free. Starrs Dessert Café on Portlant Street

In Dartmouth. The Lone Star Café, Montanas,in Bayers Lake serve Gluten Free food. The Cellar in both Bedford and Halifax will do gluten free pasta if

Ordered in advance. Sweet Basil serves gluten free, The Red Grill in Future Inns in Halifax will do gluten free meals. We have found most of the area restaurants

Are familiar with gluten free and will try to accommodate you.

Hope this helps

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
