Great Doctor In Philly Area

Need new guts

Need new guts Rookie

For anyone searching for a good Doc...

I've been going to Dr. Louis Morsbach at Central Bucks Specialists (CBS) (Open Original Shared Link) for my ulcerative colitis for a while now. I only learned about celiac and gluten a few months ago and have been gluten-free ever since b/c of how dramatic my improvement was. Today was the first time I met with him to talk about Celiac and I was concerned what his reaction would be.

To my surprise, he was great, and suggested that we go ahead with testing to confirm if it's Celiac or just an intolerance or whatever. Overall he was very receptive and knowledgeable about Celiac, the symptoms and it's relatively unknown prevalence in the US. He even had a Dr.'s primer on Celiac that he gave me, but i was already familiar with most of it b/c of this forum.

CBS is located in Doylestown, PA, so it's a small hike outside of Philly, but Dr. Morsbach has always been great. There are several other gastroenterologists there and I'd imagine that they too would be familiar.

Glad you found a gastro that you like. However, did he mention that your testing will most likely turn up negative since you've been gluten free?

Hi,

Finding a doctor that is knowledgeable is worth a million. I had no clue what was wrong with me, nor did I know about celiac disease. My primary doctor sent me to a gastro doctor for acid relux and bloating with chronic constipation. My endoscopy came up positive and my gastro dr sent me for additonal blood work. This process of testing is a little lengthly, but I feel like a new person. I have so much energy and feel so great about things (after I overcame the shock of not being able to eat my favorite foods). I must share that I live in Plymouth Meeting area of Pennsylvania and I go to Penn at Radnor Medical Center and my gastro doctor is Dr. Jaffee. HE IS GREAT! He takes alot of time explaining things to you and makes you feel like you are his only patient. I am not one that visits doctors frequently, but he has answered a life time of questions with this illness. Penn at Radnor is a division of University of Pennsylvania and he also has an office in the downtown Philadelphia area at the University of Pennsylvania. My name is Sylvia and if anyone does go to see him, you will be extremely pleased. Hope someone finds this helpful

If anyone is looking for a Pediatric GI-- We use Dr. Janice Kelly at CHOP and are very happy with her. She's very interested in Celiac Disease. There is also a Dr. Verma there who runs some support groups and community events for families.

My husband uses a GI dr. at Presbyterian Medical Center in Philly-- Dr. Su. She's very nice but not a Celiac specialist.

Is there a digestive enzyme that helps build a healthier gut? I see people taking them but not sure what really works

So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
